Will my current PSU work w/ new upgrade??

Hey all,

I just ordered a new MB, CPU & Ram from NewEgg, it should be here in a few days.

My question is will my current PSU work (right type of connecters ect..)? And is it powerful enough to run the following config? Cash is a consideration at this time.

PSU = Enlight 300W Model # AX2-5300FB-2S
It also has a sticker on it that reads “ATX 2.03”

Asus A8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Retail (w/ HSF)
PQI Turbo PC3200 DDR 400 Dual Channel 1GB (2x512)
ATI Radeon 7200 32mb AGP
1 window fan & 1 additional case fan
7200 RPM EIDE HDD x2
Optical drives X2 (1x DVD & 16x DVD-RW)
3.5 FDD
External Cable Modem
Generic V.90 modem (just for faxing)

Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated, Thanks

it's just a very rough guess, I'll have some similar equipment this week to play with.

you need 6 A on the 3.3v line, 9.8 A on the 5v, 17.8 on the 12 v line, of course, these are worst case numbers. Compare these to the sticker on your PSU, but I'd be looking into an upgrade soon If it were my system.

Subtracting for heat and all the usual stuff your right on the edge. I’d be thinking bigger PSU if you want to over clock or add anything else on to the system.

Wattage doesn't mean anything. At all. I run stuff on my Fortron 300 watt power supply that most generic 600 watt PSU's couldn't handle. I suggest you read the stickies at the top of this section of the forum for more information.

However, since you have a generic power supply, I would upgrade it anyway, if nothing else than for insurance that your components won't get fried when your current supply suddenly decides to die.

Generally speaking, I'd say no, you need to upgrade. But without the very specific rail information for that psu, I can't tell you with 100% certainty

But, with psu's that CAN handle your rig, guaranteed, no problem for ~$80.. You should think about a new psu.

I guess I will be getting a new PSU before building my new system. Any recommendations on one in the $40-$60 range?

BTW, Here are the specs on the Enlight AX2-5300FB 300W. It looks like the 3.3v and 5v rails are ok but the +12v rail is only 15.8
