Will my CPU die?

P4 2.8C@3.6
FSB=257
Mem=1:1
Cooling=air (SP94+excellent case cooling)

CPU idles at 36c and tops out at about 58c. Vcore is at 1.76 and I have been running it this way for about a month. I kind of think this may be careless, but I do have a spare P4 3.0E that does 3.6 also. I'm only Prime95 stable for about 20 minutes, but the box stays up for weeks w/o crashing and I mostly use the machine for games. I could OC it even higher with more vcore (3.7-everyday stable), but then I have to run the ram at 5:4.

My 3.0E hates anything above 1.55v thus my OC with it is limited to 3.7, but this 2.8C seems to eat the v up really good. With my temps, should I be concerned with pumping this amount of voltage at my 2.8C?

do not go above 1.8 volts with a 2.8c or u could smoke the chip, I can't remember what the max voltage is p4 e's

i wouldnt not run a northwood daily at over 1.7v. also, your temps are near 60C which would get me looking at better cooling solutions. if your system is not prime stable, it is not stable period.

I would not be so careless if I didn't have a backup CPU :D , but right now I'm at almost two weeks uptime and I'm playing IL-2 PF daily, HL2, Doom3, watching videos, scheduled virus scans and disk defrags, and several other games too.

I've heard that 1.7vcore is the max you should pump into a NW but I've also seen one individual here say that as long as you can control the temp, you can get pretty liberal with the voltage. I agree with this to some extent, but think that, especially during idle, all that voltage sitting there might not be good.

Oh well, my fall-back is a 3.0E that does 3.6 pretty easily too except it does it at 240FSB whereas this 2.8C needs 257FSB to get there. I guess I just love this 1028 bus speed and might just milk it for awhile.
