Will my CPU be a bottleneck?

With my recent order of a 280, and my computer shipping in soon, I'm a bit anxious to see if my cpu will prove to be a bottleneck for this beast.

CPU: Q9450@ 2.66Ghz...probably going to OC to about 3.0Ghz.

For a 280, assuming there's nothing else holding me down, do you think a Q@3.0Ghz will suffice?

awesome.. just built my q9450, 4 gig ram and 750i FTW... gtx 280 comes in friday...

I am hoping I have no bottlenecks as well!

I would try to get those to the 3.4 to 3.6 range personally but those processor should be able to do that so nothing to worry about.

Also keep in mind that its only in lower resolutions that bottlenecks can occur, once you raise the res/settings you'll become gpu bound from there.

yea if you are concerned about bottlenecks then we need to know what games / resolutions / settings etc

ive a x2 5600+ and 8800 gts 640mb

crysis laughs heartily at my system [i play at 1280x768, all settings on high]

but oblivion, grid, bioshock, cod4, etc all kneel before zod [@1920x1200, max goodies]

you should be fine like everyone ses make sure u have 2 gigs and also make sure that the rail's on ur psu r stable for the big load plus the ocing

I will be running 4 gigs of DDR2-6400 ram, and will primarily be playing at 1920x1200 resolution, attempting to max everything out :)

Ah, so the cpu bottleneck would only occur on lower resolution? Thank you for this information.

As for the power supply, the one I ordered from Maingear is the 1000w Silverstone Strider. They are running stress tests right now, and I'm sure it will be able to handle it.

Thanks guys!

Well, I hope you guys don't have the temp confusion that I am having. With a tuniq120 and AS5 seated correctly, realtemps says i idle around 47, but my mobo util says 38. I've been wanting to OC, but I've been reluctant with the temps. Although, my VID is lower than a few q9450s, at 1.11

Edit: During games, I've never seen it over 54C and only with prime95 does it reach 58C+,
room temps are 28C, so that could be my problem

I am in bit of the same situation as the OP.

I have an e6600 and consdering a 260, but am wondering if there will be any bottleneck at a 3ghz overclock.

That or I might just keep my old card (8800gts) and go for a new proccesor up to 400 dollars, will I have any worthwhile performance increases?

You'll get very noticable gains going with a 260 as opposed to getting a new cpu.

looks like anything above 2.4Ghz is very minimal gain. Especially as you go to higher resolutions and settings where the GPU is doing all the work.
Maybe CPU intensive games like WiC or online FPSs might benefit slightly more?
