Besides the ZOTAC Mini-ITX board will we see the likes of Asus, DFI, MSI, etc..? Be making mini-itx boards with PCIe-x16 slots? It seems Zotac is the "only" viable solution for a lan box with the Sugo 05 from Silverstone Tek. I would be jumping to a microATX but the cases for those are big. Why can't we get microATX cases that are only 12" in width like the Sugo 05?
 
I certainly hope so.

I'm sick of my mid-tower.

4 years ago I could easily justify it
-- for my raptor, and for multiple storage drives
-- for discreet graphics
-- For DL-DVD RW
-- for cooling space
-- for cheap ram upgrades

Now, a 2tb hdd will probably do it for you, SSD kills the raptor, itx takes 8gb ram, The core 2s run very cool, Slimline DVDRW are 35 bucks, and I don't game that much except quake live which even the onboard 9300/9400 will do fine. Even if I did game a lot theres a x16 in the zotac 9300.

Not many reasons to get something other than mini-itx unless you need SLI and/or dualing quad cpus...
 
I'm just hoping we see DFI, Asus, MSI. and not just ZOTAC. I see that the Zotac's audio isn't up to snuff. The SGO5 case has two slots. Would be great to see someone put a PCIe x4 slot in the first for a possible sound card then another for a graphics card. I like the SGO5 case a lot. Slimline slot, etc...

Just hoping more companies jump on the Mini-iTX and it doesn't turn out to be a fad.

MSI has been in the mini-ITX business for quite a while.They had a board with PCIe x16 long before Zotac came out with theirs.Others are Aopen, Gigabyte is coming out with some mini ITX boards, ECS has some... its just really a matter of how much you want to spent for a ITX board. Zotac seems to be the cheapest in that sector ,but also the worst in quality .
 
What about that one? The Minix? I forget what the name is exactly but I think that was it. It had a PCI-e x16 and had support for AM2+. Only down side is it uses SO-DIMMs, not regular DIMMs, but that's not a big downer really. I don't know where you can pick one up though.

Me, I'm building a Mini ITX for a home server with an Atom 330. The small size and low power usage makes it ideal for that as well.
 
I really hope that more mITX boards show up after the P55 is released. :)
 
I'm hoping more miniITX CASES show up, along with mITX sized PSUs or PicoPSU specific cases.
 
Green PCBs are better than puke brown/tan that some of the older ASUS boards had at least.

Its not really a downside at all. SO-DIMM memory costs the same as regular ones:

Looking at the second link, it seems to me like they could've easily fit in 4 SO-DIMM slots instead of 2. I mean, 2 is certainly fine, but I don't see why they held back like that.
