Will LCD work without inverters?

I have this Gateway Profile all-in-one pc. However, the lcd doesn't work, it powers up but the screen remains a lite tan color and about as bright as it should be. I think I found the problem to be in one of the two inverters, the transformer blew out. My question is basically: Should the lcd still work if I remove both inverters? They only supply backlite correct? I know without backlight I won't really see anything, but as long as I see a picture I will know that the inverter is the only problem. I plan to replace the damaged inverter if that is the only problem.
 
The inverter only powers the backlight if you still see and LCD image without light it's an inverter problem ot the backlight has gone out...
