...but anyways, if the HTIAB has optical or coaxial S/PDIF input, then you can do it. In the unlikely chance that it has multichannel analog inputs, then you can even go that route.
 
Yes, if you set your DVD software to pass Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS over S/PDIF, then it will play in all of its glory through your home theater system.
 
WAIT!!! before you get the platinum pro, understand that you can use a vanilla audigy 2 zs (the only that costs like $80 or so at newegg) and get a minijack-rca adapter for the digital out minijack on the back of the car and run that to the coax on your receiver.

I did that with the audio stuff listed in my sig and it's fantastic. it will save you a ton of money too, money to use towards speakers or other goodies, like college :D
 
Yes, but many HTIAB systems don't have the option of coaxial S/PDIF, or don't have coaxial and optical.

Well then he couldn't hook up the HTIB if that were the case anyway. The vanila audigy is every bit as capable of working with a HTIB as the platinum pro is.
 
Actually, no, that's why I made the distinction. The Platinum Pro has optical and coaxial S/PDIF out (and in), but the non-Platinum versions only have coaxial S/PDIF out.
 
Im kind of in the same situatioin, i have a htib system, but havent bought a sound card yet. If the comp is going to send all the 5.1 data over the optical signal to the reciever to be decoded, does it matter if i buy the $80 audigy 2 zs, or will the $25 chaintech av-710 work just as well, since the card isnt really processing the data. (I dont really care about watching movies, its mainly for gaming)

just about any receiver has a coax input, so connecting to the digital out from the audigy is a piece of cake via the minijack. optical doesnt offer any better sound than coax, and coax generally is standard.
