I want to upgrade to a 9600 XT from a MX440, but I'm not sure if I will have to upgrade my PSU or not. Currently I have the following running on a 350w Sparkle PSU.

AMD Athlon XP-M 2400+ (45w @ 2.4ghz 1.8v)
Shuttle AN35N Ultra Mobo
1 32x CD-ROM Drive
1 48x24x48x16 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive
1 7200RPM 80gb Hard Drive
1x 256MB PC3200 @ 400mhz
3com 3C905-TX NIC
GeForce 4 MX440 64mb PCI
Integrated Sound

I'm not sure why you can even get a bigger PSU, since all PSUs follow a size industry standard specification. With some luck, though you should be fine with your 350W

I got teh funney :p Most won't even notice..

You're nowhere near the limit on that PSU.

I run a 350W A+GPB with an overclocked Athlon 64 3200+, a 6800GT @ ultra speed, 3 hard drives, couple of burners, a few fans, lots of memory and a tv card.

Wow...doesn't the 6800 series require atleast a 480w PSU? Or is that just for the Ultras?

if thats true then I guess I'm in trouble cuz my 6800 GT has been running just fine with my Shuttle's 250W power supply for almost three weeks now. :D

That was nvidia's initial suggestion for the 6800 Ultra. They backed down to "a good quality 350W" a couple of weeks later. BFG recommends a 300W PSU for the 6800GT OC: http://www.bfgtech.com/6800GTOC.html .

Some manufacturers still recommend 480W PSUs for the 6800U, but others lowered it. You only really need a 350W, but smaller PSUs will probably work like above.

So if a powerful card like the 6800 can work w/ 350 Watts, then I guess my 9600XT can, lol.

Ok, I was able to get some more money, and now I can purchase a 9700 Pro. Would I be able to use it w/ my current PSU?

U guys crack me up with all these PSU talks!...I was worried about the 350W...but since it can run them 6800...especially there is a guy in the earlier post with a monster system running all those power drainer in his box! LMFAO!

[H] is the best place to get information...
