I am planning on buying a gtx 260, and I have a quadcore phenom 9500, 3gb of ram, 300w powersupply, I think I need to buy a new powersupply, maybe something like a 500w? 600?
 
umm yea more like a 600-650W would be nice dont buy crap brands remember!=)
 
Ya huge problem on the powersupply. With the quadcore and gtx 260 probably a corsair psu at 500w or mayb a 650w+ with antec. corsair i noticed has huge amount of amps on the 12v which is good but unfortunately i only have the antec 650w myself. Antec EA650w and corsair 450w or 550w. The 450w might be too low for what your getting tho.
 
i planned to tread on a similar route.
that CPU is about the same performer as mine (X2 6000), for games anyway. the consensus was that there definetely would be a significant bottleneck.

AT least 500w from a good brand, I'd go 600+ for more head rooms.
 
I'd be leary of Antec power supplies and head straight for that PC Power and Cooling. Extremely solid choice.
 
Have you considered the Corsair HX620W?? It's a decent PSU as [H] has testified to!

The PSU can deliver over 750W continuous if need be :)

It powers my rig with ease! :D
 
You guys are going way overboard on PSU's again. I posted about this a about 4 or 5 months ago. You can do SLI with 500 watts if you have a quality PSU.

If you run 1 cd drive, 1 hard drive, and no lights, and just 1 or 2 fans, a quality 400 watt is more than enough for 1 card as long as it meets the 12v requirement. The only reason those companies recommend such high PSU's is because they take into consideration all the shit people have in their case.
 
Ya, best quality out there is the corsiar PSU's. The 450w or 550w would be perfect for your build. I'll probably replace my antec 650w later with a corsair one when I get a newer computer later down the road.
 
Your CPU will bottleneck a little on the GTX 260. There are very few CPUs that won't (GPU power growth has far outstripped CPU in the past few years). What is your current GPU and what resolution do you plan to game at? I went from an 8800 GTX to a GTX 260 last fall. My minimum FPS in games only went up a couple of FPS, but my maximum when up 10-20 FPS. Not all your time is spent tooling around the CPU intensive areas of games, so for me it was worth it.
