RAM is bloody expensive right now and I want to upgrade my HTPC comp to Vista MCE.

the specs are:
-X2 4200+
-2x512 DDR Ram
-7800gt

I wont' be gaming on it, just watching movies and listening to music, will I be ok with Ultimate? or should I buy the RAM?

You will be fine, I dont game either and have vista 64 ultimate, everything runs great and i have 250-400megs to spare at all times

ReadyBoost helps a little bit (it's really meant for 512MB systems). There was a huge battery of tests run with ReadyBoost (can't remember where, think I saw it here though) that described gaming, everyday office use and general OS performance with and without ReadyBoost.

@ Headbust: How do you have so much free RAM with only 1GB? I have Vista on my laptop, and the Task Manager reports 400+MB cached and 0MB free (Physical Memory). Further, the Gadget I have to monitor my RAM usage in Windows Sidebar just adds to the confusion, because it reports as of right now that I have a 65% RAM load...
