Yes and No. If your system bus is faster i.e. memory bandwidth and faster memory ex. moving from KT266 w/ PC2100 RAM to nforce2 w/ PC2700 or PC3500 RAM w/ AThlon XP FSB 333, then absolutely. But, if your FSB and system nabdwidth is the same, very little diff.
 
if the situations were exactly same for both motherboards... then 8x would be faster but not by much.... 8x doesnt hold too much over the 4x agp but if u do go 8x like the poster above said... go with the faster fsb and ram as well
 
You're talking less than 5% performance difference MAX between AGP 4x and 8x. Not worth a motherboard only. Only upgrade if you are wanting to upgrade the cpu/mboard/ram.
