Will dual-core eliminate the need for Hyperthreading?

Title sums it up.

Will dual-core eliminate the usefulness of Hyperthreading. Also, will Intel's dual core have 4 logical processors with hyperthreading, and would 4 be at all necessary or is 2 just about all you need for seemless multi-tasking?
 
well, two cores would be good, but with HT it would be like having a dual proc system with ht, so like an xeon system with HT.. so like 4 in one

it still has to fill that long ass pipeline, dual core doesnt fix this
 
While most prggies won't take the advantage f 4 logical proccies it's conceivable that utillities like hte thing on Toms that allow you to choose which programs use which logical processor will demand a real market. You could have all your media stuff chill completely uninterrupted on one logical cpu while encoding on another and playing a game on the other two...the memory bandwidth is a problem I imagine...but we should be on PC 6000 by then, no?

HT is not like having a dual-processor or dual-core setup. It runs the logical and arithmetic operations of a program at the same time, utilising both parts of the chip at once, instead of only using half of the core (as one logical operation is done, the arithmetic operation has to wait) at a time. If HT is used with dual-core processors, rest assured good performance will result, but dual-core processors will not eliminate the usefulness of HT. They are like chalk and cheese.
 
It won't matter in any case. According to the previews I've read, dual core CPU's won't have hyperthreading enabled at all. This article at Anandtech is where I got that, in case you were curious. Read it, it's pretty interesting. Hope that helped. :D

Nice linkage, that pretty much answered my question. Next stop dual-core AMD system. :D
