Will Conroe have HT for its Cores? Or maybe only the XE? has any information been revieled about this yet?

Also, I know specs are few and far between But does anyone have a good link to info regarding the whole 4 issue wide data and pipeline depth and bus speed. I was hearing 1333MHz for the XE but only 1066 for the normal version?

Also, any info aobut conroe should be gathered here <3 I am intrested to see what we have on the table thus far for our up comming super CPU.
 
Conroe will not have HT it appears.It might have it disabled like Willy but the first batch won't have it on.

As for the 4 issues wide , it means it can issue , fetch and decode 4 x86 instruction / clock , while K8/P4 cand do only 3.Pipeline is 14 stages , FSB 1333 for XE , 1066 for normal.
4MB L2 low latency and direct L1-to-L1 transfers.

From what was leaked on it , the performance should be phenomenal , it simply looks like the perfect x86 CPU.
 
no perfect, still running on a crap FSB.... but def as close to perfect as we'll get until intel gets that straightened out, or AMD goes to a new (or revised) architecture
 
I am hopeing the XE will have HT... To make it worth the money it should be about 600MHz More per core, 1333FSB over 1066.... and HT... and support for 2 physical CPUs

Then it might be worth a thousand dollars
 
I know the FSB is inferior, but by looking Yonah I'm sure Intel will do another excellent job with Conroe using the inferior FSB.

Um... the EE is all of those things except HT enabled. And really there is NO need for HT, especially since most programs don't even take advantage of the dual core. I don't think that you get what this processor is. It is a mobile CPU that is clocked higher and dual core. Look up some comparisons on Dothan and Yonah compared to desktop CPUs. A 1.8 Dothan can hold it's own against 3+ghz P4s, where the only place it's lacking is multi tasking. But the dual core should take care of that.

imagine how awesome a Conroe on HT would be? INtels newest Xeons are running on some dual FSB hackjob or something like that, and just that little difference made them as fast or faster than Opterons according to a review I recently read (too lazy to look it up). The hackjob FSB Xeons are still bandwidth starved, so imagine an HT (or somethign similar) running Intel proc?

Kinda makes me think that maybe Netburst mighta been successful if it had something like that....
 
Intel killed HT for now when it cames to it and Conroe/Merom/Woodcrest. I think they wanted to have a stable product and get the kinks worked out before trying anything way too ambitious.

As for the FSB. It's bottlenecked, but it's not going to be as bad as the Pentium D series being that the cores an actually communicate properly and you have a shared L2...

And when it comes to HyperTransport and Intel. There is nothing. Their roadmap does say that Whitefield will be out in 2008 with CSI. Funny...Whitefield was reported as cancled.
 
I don't believe a 14 stage pipline is enough to implement hyper-threading.

The length of the pipeline is only one part of the equation. A wide design with a "short"(14 stage) pipeline would benefit from HT since the CPU could handle a large number of instructions "in-flight".

As the FSB ups the frequency it becomes less and less of a bottleneck.

Whitefiled India has been canned , the project moved to Portland.

Niagara has a 6 stage pipeline, Power 5/6 have a 13 stage pipeline , Montecito has an 8 stage pipeline and they all have HT.

Pipeline length has nothing to do with hyper-threadind.It is all about using all execution resources and hiding memory stalls.

Conroe doesn't have or need HT. Unless you're running a sever or an extreme Multi-Tasker, HT might do more harm than good anyway, when used with more than one core. It's not that apps have to be optimized for two procs, but for 4. There are Dual Core patches for games like Battlefield2, Call of Duty 2 and etc..... Dual Core and Dual Pocessors have gotten far more support than 64bit.

Intel is also working on an IBM-like Summit Chipset that features Multiple North Bridges that have multiple memory controllers and I/O controllers. These are said to be 100% NUMA aware. I'm sure Phoncho is just dieing to tell you guys that, hehehe! I'm only disappointed by news that there will NOT be a single core Conroe :(

Conroe MIGHT be overclocking and nothing more than e-penos measuring. You underestimate Gamers who don't need Dual Cores. Overclocking is an Art, only a few folks overclock for e-penis contests. Many folks just do it to look at it as a money saver or Value added feature. So Poncho, I have to respectfully disagree with you.

Crappy, IMHO, not at all.

Yes, I have a feeling that the Single Core Conroe would clock at least 3 or 4 hundred MHz higher, TDP back to 65W or so and we both know Single cores have fewer issues with higher FSBs. Sure two cores would kill it in the end. It would kill any of the other single cores still on the market at that time. Do you honestly think AMD will sell only Dual Cores next year? Intel maybe should have looked at Cedar Mill sales before before giving the axe to SCC. Even without HT, a 3.33 or 3.66GHz SCC would CRUSH any Intel or AMD processor running single thread apps like most games=P Hell, IMHO, 2.93GHz would do that as well.

Does Woodcrest get HT or not?
 
Donnie, the only problem with the statement you just made is that game programmers are FINALLY starting to utilize the benefits of dual core. By this time next year, thanks to the availability of dual core+ CPUs in the PC and console markets, a lot more games should be made with multicore in mind. So, even though dual core provides little benefit to gamers at the moment, it will matter more and more as time goes on.

True but many games and apps will never see Multithreaded reworks or patches. There are still tons of apps that don't lend themselves to being multithreaded. The SCC would be more like a Celeron than a Mainstream Proc. It could also be used in VIIV, SFF, Low noise and etc. rigs... It would run cooler, use less power, give off less heat and fill in a low price discount market just what it needs. Sure they might be worried about taking sales from Core Duo.
 
Is this Summit Chipset you are talking about similiar to the Hurricane?

Also what happened to CSI? Would not having CSI make the need for mutlple chipsets unncessary?

Also with regard to whitefield, from that post i'm guessing it still lives, but is being designed somewhere else?
 
I thought Single Core Conroe was still in the works with something called Millville which is bascially half an Allendale Core.

With Intel pushing Dual Cores down to the 178US price point the only sector left for Single Core processor from intel would be the Celerons.
 
I think it will not be so much single core as eventually lower speed dual core processors.
