Will ATI's 35% increase tool work on a 9600XT?

Quake 4 runs abysmally slow on my 9600XT, and this tool supposedly "increases performance running Doom-3-engine-based games on a X1k card." Am I out of luck?

yes you are screwed in this fact

you will recieve performance from their OpenGL rewrite, seeing as it improves opengl performance

Well a 9600XT isn't an X1000 card, so do the math.

Now, now - no need to be rude.

What settings are you trying to run Quake at?

1024*768, low everything, no AA/AF. Resolution is really the only thing I care about...although it would be nice to bump the textures up to medium.

That 35% improvement adjustment is a change to the memory controller programming on X1000 series cards. The design of the X1000 memory controller is much more robust than past Radeons, allowing driver level manipulation of memory mapping, etc to improve performance. The memory controller on R3xx and R4xx based boards is not nearly as flexible.

Anyone look closely at a lithograph of the R520 chip? It's almost scary how much of the die is taken up by the new memory controller.

:x drop down to 640x480 and its even playable on my TI4200.
Might be CPU but Q4 even does a number on the 9800pro and kills much of the nice visual effects.

well really, what did u expect :p

ur trying to run a new game on a card thats 3 gens old on more than minumum settings.
id just run it at 640x480 or 800x600 and be thankfully it runs at all

not that the 9600xt is a bad card, its just old now

I like how sactagg's post pretty much answers his own question yet he posted anyway. :)

Q4 hates ATI cards... My system:

ASRock 939 Dual-SATA2
X2 3800+ @ 10x240 1.375v
2x512 Kingston HyperX CL2 PC3200 @ 200mhz
WD Raptor 74GB
19" Acer LCD

Playing in my LCD resolution(1280x1024) with everything disabled/lowest is a slideshow. Lowering the resolution doesn't help enough to justify the way it looks.

I honestly think that there will be no improvements to ATI's opengl driver for a good long while. They knew Quake4 would be out and could have been ready for it. It's really frustrating.
