I am building a new machine and I am waiting for the release of the x800 or the 6800 in pci-e flavor to finish my machine and I want to know if my machine will bottleneck either card in any way.... I doubt it will but i am not 100 percent positive....

Abit AG8 Motherboard
2 gigs of pc 3200 corsair xms memory
WD raptor 36.7 gig drive (sata)
WD 200 gig drive (sata)
vantec 520 watt powersupply
nec 8x dual layer dvd burner
nec a drive
Intel 3.4 gigahertz processor (LGA775)
19 inch nec flat screen crt monitor
5.1 midiland surroundsoun (of course gotta get the 5.1 :D )
logitech standard black optical mouse and keyboard

I think cause my comp is on the high end scale it won't bottleneck it but u never know...

If you put either Video Card in that setup and OC the 3.4, you will probably get a higher 3DMark score. Therefore it will probably bottleneck the Video Card a little.
EDIT: BTW, that's a nice looking system you're building.

Unless you overclock that cpu you really can't tell what the bottleneck is as you have a top of the line cpu.

Give it hell!

unless ya go to the high end amd's yeah cpu will be the bottleneck for all the high end games that are coming out now. eg. Far Cry, Doom 3 (well not really Doom 3), Half life 2, anything that uses alot of physics and ai.

actually i worked full time at wal mart all summer for college money and money to buy this computer, i'm far from rich..... And I want my machine to last me all the way through college without having to upgrade and maybe 1 year after and I think with this pc that is feasable....

my athlon xp 2100 with 512 ram and soyo dragon motherboard and geforce 3 ti 200 lasted me 3 years....

Well you're getting a hell of a rig. I think you can OC any processor that is out and get more FPS. So that leads me to believe that there isn't a processor around that ISN'T a bottleneck for these new cards. I may be wrong tho.

your pretty much right sand man. Current games are pushing the cpu harder now.

yah thats another reason i'm going pci-e..... hopefully games will start taking advantage or come out with patches or something... so let the video card do some work :D
