Someone told me that AMD will overpass the DDR2 and will go straight to DDR3!
Is that right?
As far as i know at the end of this year nForce 5 mobo will launch withe the socket M2(1204) which will support DDR2.Am i right or what?

your right m2 will be ddr2

M2 will have 940 pins though, but yeah.

Socket F, the 1207 pin socket, is going to be for the next generation of Opterons.

what exactly is M2 going to be?

939's and 754's (kind of... I'll elaborate on this) replacement.

754 right now is the home of mobiles and semprons now. Semprons are going to be moved to 939 (939 Sempron ES's have existed for quite some time.) Then they'll go to M2 probably near launch, I assume. Mobiles will then need a home. That home will be Socket S1, which has something like 638 pins.

it's worth mentioning that the picture(s?) that i saw, S1 is actually smaller, instead of just having a hole in the middle like s754.

and i think the end of this year is a bit too soon for M2, though i can't really know for sure quite yet :p

I'd doubt Q4, the current chipsets and rev. e's just haven't had that long of a lifespan yet. This isn't the video card industry. Though a visit to your local tech tour would probably be useful.

When AMD launch processors using DDR3?
Will AMD launch theese processors sooner than intel?

1. 2007 when DDR3 enters the marketplace at full force.

2. Probably not.

probably not for a long time.. i'd worry about ddr2 for the time being as we're still on ddr1
and most likely not.

btw, I had also heard that they might skip ddr2 from my dad a few months ago, I think he read it in a chip geek article. I don't think these are the plans anymore, but back then it certainly was a possibility. I think it had to do with current DDR1 performance being fine, and DDR3 not being that far away, though it is probably further off now.

That was a shortlived rumor. Socket M2 will start with DDR2 and will be running at the DDR2-667 standard.

I'd just like to state for the record that a friend that works at AMD told me that their next generation socket will use hybrid memory modules built from vat-grown rat brains and optical interconnects instead of the current hypertransport bus. Really.

there seriously was stuff floating around about this, and it wasn't an isolated inq well story. It can hardly be compared to rat brains, or the G90 ms paint thread.
