Will a new video card help with more recent video games or is my system just too old??

Yes and no.
A new current gen video card will outperform an 8800GT, but it will be heavily bottlenecked by your CPU.

get a new CPU you wont even benefit from a new video card and i doubt your opty is pushing that 8800

Update your cpu/mobo first imo, the 8800 still does well at lower resolutions.

When you say "recent games" then IMO it's time to upgrade your entire system.

I agree. You can get a fairly decent mobo and cpu combo for under $200. That, however, would also require you to get some ddr3 ram, unless you get an AM2+ board.

can someone please tell me what the heck an Opteron 160 is? my mind has gone blank and google has completely failed me. some results say its everything form 1.6-2.6 and even some say dual core while others say single core. usually an old newegg listing will pop up but no luck.
