a freind at work has a newer Dell PC with a P4 3.0HT, 1 GB ram and a ATI x600 pci express card, he wants to play some newer games but i am not sure if his card is up to the challenge.

what are equivilant cards from nvidia and older generation ati that i can compare his x600 to.

i have a 9700pro that i can sell him if that would be any improvment, i can't seem to find a chart showing the order of all cards out there anywhere.

any ideas ?

9700 pro = agp = won't fit on his board. A x600 will play the games, but he won't get great performance.

I don't know much about this card either, google gave me this http://www.bytesector.com/data/bs-article.asp?ID=324 which compares it to a 9600xt.

Regarding the 9700, I doubt his computer has an AGP slot if it has PCI-E. Even if it was faster he probably couldn't use it.

edit: damn, beaten to the agp comment :p to be fair, I was googling and reading and posting while he posted ^^

a 9700 pro would be faster, a x600 should run them decently, half life 2 for sure. a x600 is roughly a 9600xt. Also, 9700pro = agp which most generally will not fit in a pci-e board unless it has that proprietary agp tech developed by some motherboard companies. And even then, since the proprietary agp slot is so slow the 9700pro wouldn't be much if any faster than the x600

half-life 2 is more of a CPU power game... My friend's got a P4 3.8Ghz processor and a 9800 pro and i've got a P4 3.0Ghz H/T and an X800 and he gets better frames than me. But as for games as BF2... he should be able to run it. just don't expect to go over medium settings unless his computer is loaded up with RAM. And like everyone else has said... most boards don't have AGP and PCI express slots, they've just got one or the other. If ur friend wants to play somethin good, tell him to save up about 100 bucks go over to newegg.com and go pick up a 6600GT. they're about $110 US right now, and pretty good card.

oh ya, i had a brain fart on that deal

It should be fine. I used to run a 9600np in current sig, which is a slower card, and played all those games. He will probably have to keep the resolution down though.

Dell, I believe, sells the x600 SE. So his card will probably run like a 9600np or a 9600se

ive been using an x600xt as a temporary card and it ran all of those great. just turn downt he settings

CSS all low ran like 10x7 100 frames. not average but bout half the time.
bf2 runs great some low some medium 800x600 around 45+ frames
cod2 runs great in dx7 70+ frames 10x7 zooming in is like 35 frames

Well I used to run a X600 pro 256mb. In CS, I ran all high settings with no AA or AF. In BF2 I had to run all low settings, and barely got away with it. Dont recomment BF2 on this card. Never played COD2 on it, since I got my 6800 when I got COD2. Im sure it can, since COD2 can run Direct X 7 shaders. Probably COD2 will be very demanding on the X600 if you used Direct X 9 shaders.

thanks for all the advice, how would he run COD2 on directx7 shaders, is there a setting in-game for that ?

yea read my above post. i had it on medium settings got about 70 frames and 35 when zooming in with sniper rifle
