I am in the process of building a new pc to replace my 7 year old pc. I currently have a Samsung 932gw 19" lcd and am planning on buying the Samsung XL2370-1 LED 23" LCD. I am running the 19" at 1440x900 with a 9600 radeon for a video card. The thought is to use the 23" for my main monitor to game, etc on at 1920x1080 and use the 19" as a side monitor to run chat, twitter, itunes, webpages, movies, etc. My question is should i get the 6870 or spend more money and get something like the 5870 or this yet to be named new nvidia card. The only caveat is that i would like to get this pc built before thanksgiving.

Will a 6870 be enough or do i need more?

Yes the 6870 is enough power, But I wouldn't do it as you ahve described. If you want to do the 6870, then grab a cheapo ATI/AMD based card to run the 2nd monitor, Or look into like a GTX 470 if you want to keep the 9600GT.. The nVidia route would probably be cheaper since you would only be getting 1 card, but a year later the AMD route will of likely saved you 2 or 3 times the cost difference in power usage. Also of note, there is nothing that says you need a 2nd card to run a 2nd monitor. The 6870 or 470 would both me very capeable of it on there own.
The 6870 will be fine for your needs. Its easily capable of driving two displays and has enough power for 1080 resolutions.
