I got about 400$ for christmas and my birthday is... Oh I guess it is today I'm 17 I might get a little more for chritmas and was wondering will a 2500 barton bottleneck a 6800nu to severly.

not really.. i seen some people use a 6800NU on a 1800+ and besides.. i 6800NU will boost your games alot and there always is overclocking? get that thing to 3200+ speeds..

To a degree, yes. Not severely but it will be a bottleneck. Athlon XPs are just not good gaming CPUs compared to the later P4s and all A64s. An AXP 3200+ is ROUGHLY equal to a 2.4GHz P4 in games.

are u sure a AXP 3200+ will = a 2.4 ghz p4.... i have a AXP 2800+ and i load faster in games then my friend who has a p4 3.2 ghz...

it wont be severe but it will just a little bit..

i've got one and the BFG 6800NU unlocked and everything is super fine

FARCRY @ very high looks amazing @ 1024x768 and its smooth

lol.. dang intel phanboi, i would say since it's rated for 3200+ i would say that it is roughly comparable to a 3.0ghz pentium4 C... a 2.4ghz....LOL a 3200+ will kill a pentium 4 2.4c

and o yeha shade... your xp might do the map loading better, but that 3.2ghz P4 will be reloading those bullets alot faster than your 2800+ because it is faster in-game wise... MORE FPS and not loading times haha

well i kno his processor is faster then mine but i was just sayin that to direct it at kick@ss statement... cuz i find it hard to believe if a 2.4 can kill me then a 3.2 will just destroy me in every way.

Comparing XPs to P4C's you drop a speed grade. So A 3200+ compares to a 3.0 GHz, A 3000+ compares to a 2.8 GHz. Thats basically how it breaks down. You may be bottlenecked, but if you get a solid overclock the bottleneck could be negligible.

I'm gonna be doin the same deal= 2500+ and 6800 vanilla if all goes as planned.
I dont think it will be, since it's overclocked.
At stock speeds with AA and AF off, yes, but once you turn that one, the 6800NU is the bottleneck.
Since you're running about a 3200+ speeds, you're fine.

im almost sure tha you can even O/C a 2500+ past 3200+ speeds with a decent mobo and ram to go with it, just make sure you have decent cooling.

I have a axp 3000+ (200 x 10.5) and a 6800gt and as far as i can tell, theres little, if any, bottlenecking im playing doom3 at 1280x1024(crappy monitor)high quality with 4xaa and almost solid 60fps

No, I do not think it would bottleneck a 6800nu....A 6800GT yes...

I'm running a 2500xp barton with a BFG 6800nu 128mb and everything is smooth. It increase my gaming performance alot. I use to have a Geforce 4 ti4200.

You'll be fine. It'll be bottlenecked slightly (ideally you want a A64) but if you're going the budget root, go for it.

Should perform great. I'm running a 2600+ @ 3000+ with a 6800nu and am pretty pleased. After all, you can always upgrade the rest of your rig later on.

Me too. HL2 runs smooth for me at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 8xAF.

Well, I use a 2500+ oc'd to 2.25Ghz and a BFG OC 6800nu (pipes at 12/6). I gained over 10% performance on 3DMark03 and '05 overclocking the card from stock speeds to 400/900.

That would imply that I was not CPU bottlenecked at the default 6800nu speeds for these benchmarks. If the CPU was severely bottlenecking the video card's performance, I would have noticed little (if any) improvement in scores. Can't really speak for stock 2500+ speeds though, but regardless, you'll see a nice improvement going to a 6800.

The P4's though faster were never that much fast than the Athlon XP's. Unless you're paying attention to content creation or whatever those benchmarks are that the Intel chips always excel in. Not like the gaming difference you see between the A64 and the P4's.

I decided to go with a 6600GT in my 2500@3200+ system. Runs HL2 great at 1024x768 (at home for christmas so 1024 is all I can do with the old monitor). I run it with the details cranked (except textures at med since I've only got 512MB of RAM). Also run 4x FSAA.

By no means a super l33t gaming system but for the amount of time I spend gaming these days it's perfect. I get the impression that the 6600 GT is being bottle necked by my old Athlon. I really don't think spending the extra cash would be worth it if you plan a motherboard/cpu upgrade in the next year or so. I tried to keep costs down since it would be my last AGP card and got a hell of a pricing error deal on it.
