Will a 200W PSU power this hardware configuration?

I'm trying to price a new computer for myself to replace my current rig that I want to convert over to a Linux based master file server and MythTV backend. Currently I'm planning on building the system into an Apevia X-QPack and in order to save space I want to replace the included PSU with one of the bricked picoPSU's off of Min-Box but they only go to 200W and I'm not sure if that's enough power to handle the hardware I picked or not. In addition to the hardware listed above the system will have the obligatory 120mm cooling fan the case is designed for as well as a Danger Den DC water pump. The pump doesn't use all that much power so I just wanted to find out if the rest of the hardware could be handled by 200W.

NO.

Do NOT use the included power supply either. it's worse than a brick.

Get short optical drives (like LG's) and buy a real quality unit of decent size. Corsair HX 520, Seasonic S12-500, Enhance ENS-5150, etc.

Trying to run a full proper system from a 200w PSU is a VERY bad idea. As the above poster mentions, get shorter optical drives such as the ones LiteON and LG offer and get a proper PSU.

I'm not sure even major OEMs (Dell, HP, etc) would try and pull something that daft.

Never mind. I've just looked at the Apevia site for the Q-Pack, and discovered that the PSU is easily replaceable with another ATX form factor PSU (the Q-Pack is designed to use standard, full-sized ATX PSU's). The PicoPSU's, on the other hand, do not include a housing, being designed for those small form-factor cases which do not accept a standard ATX PSU.

Any Apevia/Aspire PSU is a no-no. If you told us what kind of video card you're planning on it would give us a better idea of what your power consumption would be.

Sorry...for now I'm only planning to use the Nvidia 6150 onboard video on the motherboard. I'm not much of a gamer so I probably won't need a big bad Crossfire or SLI rig for anything.

Can anyone give me a depth measurement on the LiteOns or whatever? I've already got a pair of Sonys that I was planning on using and they seem pretty shallow but I'm not sure what you guys are actually meaning when you say shallow drives.

Also what exactly is so wrong with the picoPSUs? Is my hardware really going to draw so much power that it won't keep up or are you considering it a sub par option?

ETA how much PSU does this group of hardware require so that I can start looking for other options?

Lite On's or LG's, are about the same length as the Sony's. A full inch shorter than the average drive.

The picopsu is not a bad Idea. Your hardware is rather power consuming.
If it was an abit IL80 with a merom, that might be a different story.

Look toward the Seasonic S12 430.

Not an X2 4800. Maybe an X2 3800..

That's Actual draw. Add in the headroom, and you're above that by far.

The pc I am about to purchase is similar to your configuration, though slightly cheaper, I will also be using it for Linux and Myth tv. For the price of that X2 4800 why not go with a Core 2 duo.

My build:
ASUS M2NPV-VM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 AM2 EE
A-DATA 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) "it's not corsair but it's cheap and has heatsinks"

Power supply, I am still stuck between FSP and Xclio both good enough for your configuration.

If money is no objective go with:
Corsair 5 year warranty
Seasonic 3 year warranty
hope this helps :)

jorgeluyando, get the Xclio. The FSP is just inferior to it.

The hardware I mentioned is for use as my personal computer. My CURRENT PC will be converted over to Linux/MythTV...and I guess I'll just grab something like a 450W Enermax or something...just gotta come up with the money for this now.

Actually, the Ultra V series 500w is FREE after rebate, $40 before. Pick one up, they should do perfectly, for both of you.

I thought the Ultras where listed as a bad PSU in the PSU buying guide, and I don't trust rebates except for e-rebates. I find it very suspicious that they are just giving them away for free ;) .

I think ill stick with the FSP

No, only the Ultra X-Connect, the original ones, were. the new Xfinity, the old Xfinity, the V series, the X2, and everything else is rather good.

Fry's rebate. click
