Is this not a huge deal with Nintendo that there are so many shitty games out there? Like really, you would like by now someone could release a bowling game that is better than a Tech demo! Or anything like that! I mean how many cheap ass games do you see for this system? Also, for the best selling system it has very few have games! I agree the PS3 is lacking that as well but this system is the one that should have them? Just one question does it cost a lot less to develop a game for this system compared to the other next gen ones?
Thank you

Agreed.

I have a wii and a 360.

The games catalogue for my wii is hmmm... dire.
My wife bought the wii with a 'forced bundle' of games at christmas. We are ebaying all but one of the games as they are total crud.

other than metroid prime, wii sports (for the wife and parties), Mario Party 8 (for parties despite how much it sucks), and the wife's trauma centre game... this console sucks !!

Sure there are a couple of games on the horizon.. wii fit has got my wife's interest, along with a couple of others that are already out (Sims Castaway / mario galaxy), but to be honest..

ITS A FREAKING GIRL'S CONSOLE !

Game Catalogue wise 360 > PS3 >>>>>>>>>> Wii

Stop, this is not a Wii hating thread. It's actually my favourite out of all 3 cause of Wii sports with friends. The only thing I do noy like is the lack of quality control by Nintendo;

Don't feed the troll.

The Wii has several good games IMO.

Zelda is alright, Metroid is awesome, Mario Galaxy rulz, SSX Blur is pretty fun if you're into that sort of thing, Zak and Wiki is really cool. There are a lot more must have games on the Wii than on the PS3, and both systems have been out the same amount of time.

There are always crappy games released for every console. For one that has been out for just a little more than one year, the Wii is doing fine IMO.

Do you remember how horribly the 360's first year sucked?

Also, the success of the Wii caught many developers off guard and only recently have studios allocated full resources to developing original Wii games, so expect a lot more in 2008.

My two cents.

my Wii hasn't been played since i beat Mario Galaxy some time in early Dec and before that it wasn't played after i beat Zelda TP i probably won't use it until the next Zelda ??? or Mario ??? is released 2010 :( but my PS3 is being used everyday with RFoM, Warhawk & COD4 thank God for multiplayer online :D

Suda 51 (No More Heroes) on the Wii:

"Actually I was very surprised about the reality about Wii, because before I was making this game, I wasn't expecting that Wii would be a console targeted only for non-gamers. I expected more games for hardcore gamers. The reality is different to what I expected".

Most of the people who own the Wii that I know are not gamers. They own Wii sports, and maybe one other title. It's their box for Wii sports and only Wii sports. I got my Wii for Zelda, Mario, Kart, and Brawl. Sure, I've picked up Umbrella Chronicles and a few others, but I tend to lean towards my PC/360 for the majority of my gaming.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I'm not thinking of the Wii in nearly any other context than a true one-room multi-player experience. The single player games, while some of them are good aren't the market that the Big N is going after. They want the casual market, people who don't play games that often, simple games. Why do you think the Mii's are so generic and simple?

Wii Sports, probably the single greatest pack-in game of all time, just itching to be played with friends/family. Wii Play, one of their largest selling games (probably because of the WiiMote add-in) also just needs to be played with another person...

Then you have the mentioned Mario Party, and all the other ones, like the upcoming Brawl, which is also designed to be a "party" game.

There are also a few great single player experiences, but for the sheer number of titles out there (there are a boat-load) - not many of them are totally worthy. I am enjoying running through Godfather:Blackhand Edition currently (graphics suck, but gameplay is pretty nice and great use of the Wii controls).

I don't know if this is really Nintendo's fault though. They're selling the most popular system right now, so developers are just pushing out "shovelware" like nobodies business, hoping that someone buys it and they make a profit.

Go to any big review site, do a list of all Wii games and then sort by review score. Take the sort from low-score to high. Just frightening how much crap is out, and what percentage of total games garner a less than 50% total review score (based on whatever method they use).

Now, this isn't a bash of the Wii by any means. I love mine, and I'm playing it often (well, about every 3 or 4 nights) with the family and by myself. BUT, if I'm playing games by my lonesome, I'd much rather fire up the PS3 as the whole experience is much, much better than anything out on the Wii.

Aggregate review scores are definitely not a great way of evaluating a system's _total_ library, but rather the upper end of it. Most gaming sites will simply pass on shovelware, which makes sense, given their limited reviewing resources.

I don't think the OP was trying to say the Wii has only bad games, but rather that the good-to-bad ratio is horrible, and that the stuff that's bad is generally really awful, moreso than other consoles. I think I'm inclined to agree.

However, I don't think it's Nintendo's place (or Microsoft's, or Sony's) to tell publishers what they may or may not put out on the console (including A-rated games). Their place is to make sure that technical compatibility issues are addressed, not to regulate content. Since the Wii is perceived (rightly or wrongly) as the hot new console for the unwashed non-gamer masses, you're going to see a lot of shovelware designed for mass appeal, low dev costs, and quick sales.

The only real issue with shovelware that I can think of is that lots of shovelware dilutes the shelf space available for games that don't suck.

if you want to see an absolutely huge library of crap games, see the ps1.

No matter what Nintendo wants you to believe, hardcore gamers aren't the ones snapping up these consoles. It's people like my non-gaming wife, her 58 year old mother, and my neighbor who has five kids that are driving the demand. Why do they need a ton of immersive titles? They just want easy-to-play games (Rayman, for instance) that don't require hair trigger reflexes to succeed. So, you'll probably see a lot of "mini game" type games continue to be released. Sure, they'll put the occasional rockin' title out, but demand for that on the Wii may not support frequent development of such games. I find the Wii to be an unique type of gaming experience which I enjoy on a completely different level than my 360.

I was going to say the same about the ps2 :p

Popular consoles always get a ton of crap.
It's all relative, but I'd say the ration of good to crappy games tends to scale with the size of the library. I don't think any one system is immune to it.

I think the problem is the Wii is that it's more of a family system, therefore many games are 'kid friendly.' This quite oftens translates into 'crappy' games in the eyes of the adult gamers.

Personally, I like the innovation of the system, but I don't want to be flailing my arms and jumping around the room for every game. Most games I'd rather just sit down with a gamepad and use it as I would my PS2 gamepad. The general exception to this rule is the multiplayer/party games, which can be a lot of fun using the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii.

Nintendo is making the smart move, the same move that Sony made with PS1 and PS2: let the games roll in. Sure, the bulk are trash, but the handful that are worth owning are pure gold. Same was true with PS1 and PS2. Look at how huge their libraries are, and yet...how many PS1 and PS2 titles are *really* worth owning? Maybe 10-20% of the library, *tops*.

wow... and suddenly the "wii suxorz" threads start again!!!

Ok if you think the Wii does not have a good catalogue you are probably right, I mean what do you expect from a console that nobody (meaning developers) thought would go anywhere only to have it be a smash hit. Over a year later the Wii is still a hard console to find and developers truly only started making games for it some six months after release. I dont know about you but my Wii get plenty of play time between me and the fiance', I have about 6 games for it and still have a hard time deciding what I want to play from day to day. I love these people that say "It suckz, It has done nothing but collect dust since I beat XX game a month after it released" Well maybe bide your time a little and take some time to enjoy the game, not rush through it to be the first on the block to beat it. I fiance was never really into video games but we ended up getting Super Paper Mario (which is an awesome game) and she fell in love with it. Actually spend the better part of our two weeks off for the holidays trying to beat it as quickly as possible, I ended up having to explain to her that that is not how you play a video game, otherwise you get burnt out
/rant

Anyways, OP you are entitled to your own opinion but it seems that there is severe lack of knowledge of game for the Wii as you stated there really is only the demo for bowling and some other "ishtty" games. Actually, if you look at it the Wii has a pretty decent library (all though I do agree that there some very crappy games) I just think you need to take your Blockbuster/Hollywood Video membership and start testing out some game.

Just my $0.02

I find my Wii and DS to be my most heavilly used systems. After that is my PS2 and PC, my PS3 is farther down the line after the 360.

If I can get the game for the PC, I will. That usually provides the best online/graphics immersion. After that is exclusives that are fun. Resistance FoM falls way short of the multiplayer experience I get with PC. CoD4, I'd rather use PC. For fun MP stuff with friends in home, the Wii pretty much dominates. Even the PS2 gets some in house multiplay too.

Well I got a Wii for my girlfriend for Christmas and that is all she plays now. I mean it is getting out of hand!!! Wii sports, SMG and that stupid find the mii in wii play. Also what the Hell is this fascination with sending and receiving mii's!!!! ??Nintendo has got a winner but for how long?they are really missing the mark in certain categories such as on line play. Imagine wii sports on line. SMG is downright ground breaking!!! But the catalog is not meant for the "Hardcore gamer" (Whatever that means any more) sure Nintendo will provide good 1 st party support but the third party usually suck. what's gonna happen when the novelty wears off? Will devs make nothing but party games or will they really come up with imaginative games to play? I think Nintendo is on the right path but how long can hold the attention of folks who quite frankly have short attention spans to begin with and really don't like deep games. If something creative and involved is made will these casual gamer even play it? or will it be wii sports 3 and Mario Party/strikers/Golf/whatever and carnival games 5. Can a platform survive on that?

LOL, we're still going with the "what about when the novelty wears off" argument a *year and change* after the thing hit the market? Unbelievable, LOL.

I'd say it's pretty clear that the novelty isn't wearing off--because it isn't novelty. Developers have already made numerous shifts, and there are tons of games coming for the Wii, far more than are coming for PS3 and 360 (though 360 still has the best library, hands down). Whatever else may happen, it's clear by now that the Wii is here to *stay*.

jokes... novelty... 1 year and 3 months... and I can still pass by stores and see papers on the door saying "Sorry wii out of stock"...
