wii lockup - while playing madden 07

hadn't seen any posts here about wii's locking up, but i experienced my first one tonight.

bought the wii on launch,
played zelda to completion (about 72 hours),
played wii sports a ton - (remind me to pickup a second controller soon - hot potato with one controller will end up in a disaster soon, i have a feeling)
no problems, lock ups or otherwise

for christmas i received madden 07
today is the first chance i've had to play madden.

wii connect is turned off, but i have done all the updates
the system sits outside of my av rack, but on top of my sub (keeps it 14 inches or so of the floor, the top of the sub is flat and generally cool to the touch)
wii is cool to the touch (when i was leaving wii connect on, it would feel a little warm all the time)

powered on the wii, started playing madden, total time system was on until lockup was about 7 hours straight ( i took dinner breaks, and social breaks, couple friends came over to check out madden on the wii, but the system was never turned off, restarted, or exited to the wii menu)

played through the tutorial, played the rookie mini-games, made a fan, then started the nfl superstar hall of fame mode, made it through everything, played in the first pre-season game. finished the game, exited back to the hotel room, checked a few things there

started the practice on the next tuesday, loaded the practice ok, i picked out the offensive and defensive plays. started an inside running play and the system locked up hard.

everything on the screen froze, the sound just cut out.
pressing the home key didn't help, batteries are good in the remote (had just replaced them about 1 hour before) reset button on the wii didn't work. the wii was cool, fan working ok, cd sounded like it was spinning ok

had to hold down the power button for about 15 seconds before it restarted

after the restart, everything seemed ok....

ok, after all that long mess, my question....
has anybody had problems with their wii locking up?
either playing madden 07? or any other title?

playing elebits last week at a friends, there were a few times the frame rate dropped, the game looked like a slide show, but it never locked up

i hope to play madden more this weekend and will report back if i run into any other problems
 
I have heard Madden 07 having issue on all game consoles and PC. Including corruption of franchise modes as well. I have experienced issues with the xbox and pc version so I doubt the wii's would be any different.
 
I had Red Steel lock up on me TWICE. Both times there was a loud snap from my speakers, and then the sound from the game just looped over and over and over while the game was frozen. No way to reset except to hold down the power button like you did.

However, I don't believe this is a hardware issue with the Wii, seeing as my console is almost totally cool while playing games. I'm pretty sure this was an issue with the game itself locking up due to bad programming.
