Wii Console Noises

Just picked up a Wii this morning and have played the hell out of it all day. I'm having some concerns with my console though. When I power it on or off it makes quite a bit of noise which can be heard some feet away from the system. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?
 
i get the same noise when it does a reboot or turns off, i would say that its related to the slotted disc player
 
Yeah, same thing here; sounds like the laser's seek mechanism working to me. I vote for 'normal'
 
Yes, normal. It's the slot transport checking to see if a disc is loaded.
