Hi Guys

I've Asus DSL N55U ADSL Modem/Router which is connected to my Desktop.

If Laptop is also present in the same Room I'm able to access the internet but if I move the Laptop to another room then Signal drops drastically.

On different Forums and you tube I found that if I install a Router or AP and make it work as Repeater then it works fine. Can anyone elaborate on this quickly ?

Also if this option does not work, then what will be the best option to increase signal to whole house.

For reference purpose, my house has 3 bedrooms and total length of the house is approx. 55 Ft.

I expect some quick reply.
 
You shouldn't be seeing drastic drops in signal just 1 room away. Forget a repeater, this sounds like an antenna issue; I'm guessing the antenna on your laptop.

Some laptops will have a little door in the bottom where you can access the WiFi card. You'll know you're looking at it if you see two little wires snapped into the card. Make sure both of these are secure.

Do you have any other wireless devices? Is it just that laptop that has the issue?

Apart from Laptop, I've two more devices One Desktop having Linksys USB Wireless ADapater and Samsung Galaxy S2 Mobile.

My Mobile is able to connect to Wireless Network but even the other desktop is showing no signal or maximum one bar.

Now the question is :

In order to extend the signal range, shall I use Router with builtin capability of working as Repeater or shall I go for a product like Netgear Acess Point which can alos work as Repeater ?

Please reply at earliest as I've to decide today.
 
If a desktop nearby has very little signal (even if it is using a crappy USB WiFi adapter) and the laptop drops off the wireless 1 room away, the problem is your wireless router then. The repeater on the router is to repeat another router's signal, not it's own.

Using a new repeater may work, but you may as well buy another wireless router; if you're losing signal a room away, it's broken. Using a repeater will only boost a poor signal and reduce your throughput.

In short, you probably need a new wireless router. The only other possibility is wireless interference, and a repeater would just make that even worse.

One quick free option is to mount the wireless router high on the wall in your room, that may increase the range over it just sitting on the floor or the desk.

But because its DSL, could the firmware prevent extended range because of bandwidth?

That is a new one. Other than maybe a really bizzare firmware issue, I've never seen/heard of this.
