Wierd stuff goin on, wanna take a peak?

Ok, so i just formatted and im using windows xp pro, and I have been on this install for about 2 weeks now. Pretty much, my luck goes like this: sometimes ill get a really great format and ill never have connection hangups/spyware ever, and sometimes (even tho i do my procedures correctly), i still get spyware/connection shutting off randomly (connection to the internet that is)...

What i do is i format, and i never get on the internet till my virus scanner is 100% updated and sp2 is installed with firewall. THEN i download firefox to prevent further popups and i disable messenger service.

So heres my problem. Just formatted, and i am having my internet connection randomly resetting itself and coming back online after turning itself off for a few seconds... REALLY annoying when playin BF2. Another thing is that when i look at my task list, my CPU usage will be 0% for a second, then jump to 7% then to 40% then back to 0%, and the cycle repeats. I dont know whats goin on, but i have both spybot and adware up to date 100%, so i am at a loss...

Whats goin on?

What process is running that makes your CPU usage bounce around?

Viewpoint wouldn't do that.

It seems like its not spyware tho, seems like its some driver or your connection it self

Yes im going through a router, but would my router really make my internet connection behave that erratically every time i format? (remmeber, it doesnt do this on every format, just some)
 
somehow i dont think that the whole, format reinstall and net drops, isnt related to the formatting and reinstalling, im lookin towards nic drivers, or maybe even the router being flakey...perhaps a firmware upgrade on the router, and check for nic drivers? also, to be honest i see symantec in there, norton, internet security?? just get that crap outta there, get something like avgfree, or clamAV, both free and quite nice and recource friendly AV...as for firewall, i turn mine off and use the router...i mean its nice to kno whats goin on in my pc, but ya know i get such a feel for it im confident without runnin a software fw.

Well, my internet security is disabled (the nforce one), my norton is the antivirus, i leave it on all the time and it has saved my ocmp a few times, and symantec is norton's company...

So i shuold upgrade firmware on router and do something different with nic drivers?
 
yes, fiorst flash the firmware on the router, see how that handles it. then check for updates nic drivers...thats about it i can think of this early
