with my new system. Let me explain.

Its an Athlon 64 3000+. I had two video cards, an AGP and a PCI (dual display) and 1gb of ram. One stick is pc2100 and the other is pc2700 - first off, is that a big problem?

Anyway, my system was really unstable. It just locked up or would freeze for a few minutes. Shit was taking forever to load. I reformated once more (i did when I put the thing together last week) and I couldn't get the thing to even install XP. The PCI videocard is an old voodoo. Anyway, I decided since I couldn't get it to install XP, I would pull the PCI videocard out. Unfortunately, I also pulled the new pc2700 stick out. Voila, it worked. Now I don't quite know if it was the memory causing my problem or the video card. hmmm...

Any idea or should I try to stick the pc2700 stick back in and try that? Is there some utility I can download to test the memory?
 
It could be either so I would try stuffing the ram back in and if that doesn't work then the ram is not compatible with your machine, but try just the 2700 stick by itself and then as a pair if it works by itself.
 
If i do pull the pc2100 out and just put the pc2700 in, it won't screw things up so I have to reinstall will it? I'm pretty sure it won't since it's just non-driver hardware, but just curious.
 
I forgot to mention that when my system was unstable, I frequently got the dreaded BSDs and also errors relating to winservices.exe and ntdll or some crap like that. Also, when I was resintalling XP, it would reboot right in the middle of setup and then start over after rebooting. It mainly did this when installing drivers. Sometimes, it would get past the driver installation and then just freeze.
