i work at staples
and we just got a bunch of new laptops for the vista launch and i noticed one of them had a "pentium dual core" so i figured it was just a typo from staples cuz their tags are always wrong but the sticker on the laptop(hp) and the signs that came with it say the same thing. and theres even an intel inside sticker on it that says pentium dual core
the model is t2060

is this just a core duo? i thought they dropped the pentium name

edit: also i ran cpu-z on it and it said it was a yonah core duo

Yeah it's a Yonah, but alot of people would buy a "pentium" over a " t2060" I'm sure...

Probably either a typo or a marketing thing.

i thought it was a staples typo too
but theres an actual intel sticker on it that says pentium and then dual core in small caps underneath
its odd

http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/proc_info_table.pdf

Page #3 will give you the info you seek:) It's given the Pentium Name just as others will get the Celeron Name. This a Mobile Core Duo Yonah processor at 1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2, 65nm and aren't bad at all.

That's the "new" T2060 processor. Basically, it's a Core Duo (not a Core2 Duo) with half of the cache disabled. Probably Intel's way of getting rid of processors with half of the cache trashed.

Does anyone know how the processor performs? Has anyone who works at these stores that sell them worked with a laptop with this processor in it at all?

I'm trying to find out if it is in fact a semi-crippled Core Duo, does it still have all the Core Duo benefits such as spedstepping, etc... does this new 2060 proc run at a higher wattage, thus reducing battery life or is it the same as the other Core Duo's?

Just some of the questions running through my noggin.

That's just it, Yonah had already caught AMD before Conroe launched. They're not crippled, just older models. These are the first of Intel Core Architecture and make very good Notebook processors.

Shows a 2GHz version is neck and neck with a AMD's 2.2GHz processor. Keep in mind that it didn't have the best platform to work with. These processors have good power management or can go a long time on battery.

I remember we had a thread here after this review. I can't find it but most of us laughed and we agreed that Conroe would be faster much faster memory controller or not. This even while Anand and others though otherwise. Here's his quote.

Anand said:
We wouldn't be too surprised if the comparisons that we have shown today end up being very similar to what we encounter at Conroe's launch: with AMD and Intel performing very similarly at the same clock speeds, but with AMD's on-die memory controller giving it the advantage in gaming.

I much rather get the Conroe version for a Laptop, but these aren't bad either. The problem is what replaced it is so damned good!

Its basicly a P4M in a dual core. Its a good chip. Not as fast clock per clock as a C2D but its not far behind.
