Not sure why and it almost feels like more of a driver conflict. Xp and Vista both having issues.. one a bit different from the other but in Xp i saw my drive performance drop to 50% in HD sentinel. This started after installing the new video card. I am thinking a fresh install and an updated driver may help. Its only effecting my OS drive. Im ditching my Raptor and 500g samsung for a WD 640gb drive to save on power and noise. They keep saying its my PSU in the abit forum but the 520 corsair has no problems with the 8800GTS I had and my problems have been at idle and my O&O Defrag will hang when I try to use it. Any ideas?

Wierd HD issues after 4870 install.

Well the WD 640 is on the way so im ditching two drives in place of one which should free up some power. This psu has been solid for 8 months behind an overclocked 8800GTS with no problems. I just find it hard to believe its a PSU problem. How much more power does a 4870 pull over an 8800GTS?
Noted below in the post is the W used by 4870, not sure about the GT. You gotta factor in the rest of your system specs too , to find out what your total consumption is. This will give you a better idea of how it's all handled.

Willing to bet a nice little chunk of that increase comes from the RAM and CPU at full load, so the numbers could be a little bit misleading.
Is there some way to run a computer with just the video card drawing power? Right, there isn't, so we have to look at total system power, not just the draw of the video card. Additionally, manufacturing can be inconsistent and you can get a 2 cards from the same company (using the same reference design) that draw different amounts of power.
My system hasn't been stable since I installed the 4870. It was fine before. Im hoping with the new HD and fresh install it will run better. Hopefully ATI releases some new drivers and I would rather run ATI Tool instead of CCC. Something with my system is not happy. I get wierd bogs and hangs and im wondering if its my uGuru on my Abit board. Ive got the latest bios and latest software. I am at a loss.

Try running with lower system clocks to see if things improve.
This would indicate something is running too fast, getting too hot or the PSU cant cope with the full load.

Problems are normally at idle and system would struggle just to launch explorer or AIM. I ran Orthos again for a few hours with no failures and stressed the memory also. Running the latest bios revision and newer version of uGuru software seems to have helped some.
