Wierd DVD burner/itunes problem

Hello, i recently bought a NEC DVD burner, 8x methinks, and when i try to play a CD or import a cd or burn a cd in itunes it plays each song for like .1 seconds and goes to the next song. Is this a common problem with itunes and DVD burners? it played fine in my other CD burner.... thanks for any info
