I have an MSI 6600gt and a Dell 2005FPW, the remainder of my specs are below in the sig. Here is my issue, occaissionaly when I try and cold boot my system, including turning on the monitor from an off state, the PC turns on, I get a post beep, but the monitor acts as if there is no video, changing from green to auburn after 15 seconds or so. I have tried a few things, but there has been no consistent fix. I have turned everything off all the way back to the surge, I have diconnected and reconnected all cables, I have rewired the inside of my PC, I have removed a few usb devices. Things I haven't tried yet are different cables, new psu (which I am reluctant to try since my voltages are very tight). I mean after a few tries it works, but its a pain.
 
try using vga insteaf of dviand try the other dvi/vga port on the video card.it might be drivers, happened to me once.
 
I notice your 6600GT is an AGP part. The AGP version of the 6600GT has an inherent flaw where it is unable to synchronise with monitors through the DVI port. I discovered this when a friend bought a 2405FPW and found he couldn't use DVI.

I believe this was a problem stemming from the bridge from PCI-E to AGP. I'm afraid you may have to use the VGA port from now on, or change your video card.
 
Cadaver, you posted a similar reponse to a thread of mine recently. I have a similar but more extreme problem (my monitor NEVER responds to the DVI input).

I am still waiting for Dell to replace my monitor (to try to get one without backlight issue, 1 week and still waiting) but in the meantime I have scoured the internet for other mentions of this PCIe -> AGP bridging issue with the 6600GT, and no DVI synchronisation, but have found nothing. Don't want to doubt you :cool: but where did you read about the issue? Or are you just basing it on your friends 2405FPW experience. I have found nothing on the Nvidia home page :rolleyes:

If you read about halfway down the page, the guy called Peter (who is an Elite Member, and I therefore thought worthy of referencing) describes how the DVI transmitter on some Nvidia cards is unable to transmit the full 165Mhz needed for 1920x1200 resolution.

I can testify to this issue personally. Both a friend (who I mentioned in your thread) and myself own 2405FPWs and Leadtek 6600GT cards. The difference is that his is AGP and mine is PCI-E. My own card is the only one that works through DVI. His own investigation led him to a similar conclusion to me, but he described it as a "synchronisation issue" because the transmitter is unable to supply the screen with the all the data necessary.

What is strange in the case of BigFNDeal is that he is using the 2005FPW with a res of 1680x1050. The transmitter on the 6600GT should be able to push 1600x1200. This is a higher res in terms of pixel count, and therefore enough data should be supplied. It is the only issue I know of that may account for his erratic DVI connection. Once he tries through VGA, we will know more.

The odd thing is, mine almost always works thru the DVI, only very rarely will it fail to recognize it, and after a few attempts and some combination of the fixes I mentioned above it always works eventually. Interesting, I am just not sure why this is.
 
But I have a 2005FPW and am only trying to run at 1680 x 1050.

Also, I don't even get a POST screen which is 640x480, isn't it? I don't get anything at all.
