Alright, last Thursday I installed an SI-97 Heatsink and a good reliable 92mm fan(I've had it for years, but it has worked great from day one). I also installed another stick of ram. All in all here is the setup.

Asus A7N8X-X
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (2.345 ghz 1.75 vcore)
Gigabyte Radeon 9800 pro 128mb (430.2mhz/365.4mhz)
1 gig of kingston valueram PC3200 (2 x 512mb)

My temperatures are in comfortable range (mbm reads 41* socket, 34*diode at idle and usually 50* and 44* under load). I don't get any wierd things while under use, but if I let my computer screensaver run overnight, I will wake up and my computer will have all the startup windows up (steam, AIM, ares, etc), suggesting it rebooted at some point. What could the problem be? If I go to class and it's running at 100% with the screen saver, no problem. But for whatever reason, overnight, it will turn off.

Any ideas?
 
Mine is not video card related. It is CPU related. I think I may have isolated it and fixed it by upping my voltage .25 volts to 1.775 and it seems to be doing well. I've run a few CPU load tests(using that new program that someone posted today) and it seems to be fine. I'll run it a few more times when I get out of here (I'm in class right now).


Can anyone give me an idea of how far a 3000Barton can go with good air cooling? Is 2.6 ghz possible?
 
remount the heatsink

I had the same problem the first time I installed it
the temps looked ok, and it would boot, but then it would crash randomly, I think it has something to do with inproper core contact since the temps are fine I can only guess that one part of the core isnt being cooled correctly. Just remount it and you should be fine
 
lol....oh boy

Also, How is yours mounted? I have mine mounted so my fan is tilted downward, hopefully sucking cooler air thru the heatsinks as opposed to warmer air.
