Widows Vista Activation?

I recently Installed Vista home basic on my mothers computer.I did a clean install! When I try to activate it it tells me that the cd key I entered can only be used for upgrade not clean install.So please tell me how activate it.....TIA!

Does your Vista box/package say UPGRADE or FULL VERSION ?

If it says upgrade, you were supposed to do an upgrade from a previous version of Windows, which sounds like your cdkey is an upgrade, but you didnt do an upgrade.

You have to do another install of Vista

It does say upgrade BUT it also says backup and clean install may be neccesary.

Try to install again. It will see your previous install and assume it's upgrading. I had to do that on mine. You can see details here:
