I'm after a widescreen TFT around 19" - 20".

But I really love the x-black kinda screens with the almost glass like coatings over the screen, they really make the picture looks sharp and the contract look crisp.

Does anyone know of any 19"-20" screens that have this kinda coating. I'm noticing Sony are not the only ones who do screens with this finish anymore, but don't really know where to look for screens like this??

ANy ideas?

Chris

As far as widescreen TFT displays for *desktops*, they generally start at 21", and so far, the value leader in that size is Gateway's 21" TFT FPD2185W (http://www.gateway.com, http://www.bestbuy.com, and all Best Buy stores nationwide). However, the two best widescreen TFT displays, regardless of price, are the Samsung SyncMaster 244T (the successor to the wildly popular SyncMaster 243T; $1,999 from NewEgg) and Dell's 2405FPW (like the 244T, it's 24" of widescreen goodness and rivals the Samsung in features; however, it's almost half the 244T's price, and unlike the 244T, it's always in stock. $1,099 from Dell; http://www.dell.com).
While the 244T and 2405FPW require 1920x1200 support to run at their native resolution, the latest versions of ATI's Catalyst and nVidia's Forceware both support this resolution, as do all their respective GPU/VPUs back to GeForce 4 MX for nVidia and R300 for ATI (basically every GPU or VPU from either company over the last four years, and some products from as far back as 2000). Both monitors support 15-pin D-sub (analog), DVI (digital), composite, and even YPbPr/component inputs (which means you can use either monitor as an HDTV/DVD/console display when you aren't using your PC). They also function as unpowered four-port USB hubs as well.

Acer AL2032WA and Acer Ferrari f-20 LCD's have this coating, acer calls it x-bright technology,

both monitors are 20' widescreens .....1680x1050.....

ahh cool, acer 19" now that would be perfect. If only Sony did a 19" wide huh :D

I'm getting a 20" widescreen lcd. What do I need to do to play games in that res?

Depends on the game - for WoW, it will give you that as a choice automatically, for HL2 (CS:S too) you can specify "widescreen" and that enables a preset array of resolutions to pick from.

As with all LCDs gaming at other than native resolution will degrade the overall experience

I have a 7800 GTOC so I should be ok.
