I am thinking about buying a Viewsonic 22in widescreen lcd, however the 1680x1050 resolution is scaring me off a tad. This is because with my current hardware setup framerates would almost certainly die in any modern game at that resolution. My question is, If i were to purchase this monitor, could I run games in 1440x900 resolutions and still maintain a fullscreen image? Thanks in advance for your help.

BTW: This monitor is an excellent deal here, http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11163877&whse=BC&topnav=&browse= you should pick one up if you ahve been looking for a cheap quality monitor.

others should chime in that actually have the viewsonic, but i can tell you what my samsung 225bw is like.

im not sure about that resolution, but it should be fine. my samsung does an incredible job of scaling, there is no need at all to run it at max res all the time. i bet you will find if you do run it at that resolution you noted, you couldnt even tell the screen was out of native scale. the only thing i noticed is that nvidia's drivers only give me one wide-screen resolution, and thats the native. all lower resolutions are 4:3 aspect, which i though was a little weird. im sure most new games will have support for lower widescreen resolutions.

Generally, monitors stretch out whatever resolution you send them, so yes, you'll maintain a fullscreen image. Now, if your monitor's OSD has a "1:1 scaling" option, or if you use that option in the video card settings, I think it's possible to make the screen display a centered, lower resolution image, using native pixels, and have black bars all around it...but that's not what you want anyway. :D
