I have a dual monitor setup as listed in my signature: 22 inch widescreen monitor and 19inch regular aspect ratio monitor.
When I want to run widescreen games that have no widescreen support, I usually google a hack. The one I use for BF2142 does something weird. When I click on the link to run the widescreen version of the game, it will run my 22 inch with a regular aspect ratio, like 800x600. My friend suggested that I turn OFF my 19 inch while attempting to run the game. I didn't believe that it would work, but it did! I can even turn the monitor back on once the game has loaded, and I get to keep my 1680x1050 resolution.
So yes, I've found a way to make it work. But does anyone know what this problem stems from? And how would I make it so I wouldn't have to turn off my secondary monitor every single time?
