I had the pleasure of using a 20" 1600x1200 monitor at an office the other day.

Wow! I forgot how much more you can see on a 4:3 monitor. I'm seriously considering trying to find a 4:3 monitor for myself. I'm growing rather tired of the narrow view of a 16:9 monitor.

People say 16:9 is better for movies. Well, depending on the movie, you might still get black bars even when using a 16:9 monitor.

Since I don't watch many movies sitting at my desk... I'd much rather have more screen real estate for every other task...

Anyone else feel the same?

16:9 is better for 1080i/p television, since that's 16:9.

Movies are typically 1.85:1 - 2.35:1. So, that's anywhere from 16.65:9 - 21.15:9.

Buy a 30" and have the pleasure of 2560x1600?

I have a 37" 16:9 1080p monitor, and I can't buy a 4:3 monitor that's that wide, and I can't buy a 4:3 monitor that will rival my 30" for resolution. So, 16:9/16:10 isn't the issue, and neither is resolution.

yeah, 1600x1200 in portrait mode was the best!

16:9 in portrait mode is so weak with only 1080-1200 pixels wide.

the 27" and 30" monitors are starting to grow on me these days with 2560 pixels across.

Yeah, but I finally settled on 16:10. You just have to go a lot bigger in size. I had a Sagger laptop that was a 16 inch 4:3. It was fantastic for programming and pictures. eventually the specs got to far out of date and I eBayed it. That's OK, because I still have a Sony GDM-F520 4:3 CRT. There is truly nothing like it. Still my main display is a Dell 2709W, I like the larger size.

I think when you go past 24 inches you have to go with 16:10

16:9 forget it.

For all of you "Its not the SIZE that counts, its how you use it" apologists:
