I just bought a HannsG HW191D. I am running an Radeon x850xt and with the newest drivers. It works fine at 1400x900 on the desktop.

So I was testing a game and it runs at default 800x600. But when I exit the game, all I see is glitchyness - I can't make out anything on my desktop. I just see columns of color (alternating shades of blue). So I restart the computer and it had the same problem still.

I restarted a second time and booted into safe mode. I can see everything fine. I didn't change anything and restarted Windows normally... screen was messed up again - same as before.

I restarted a 4th time and this time, I pressed F8 and selected, "Enable VGA mode" and it booted and I can see my screen clearly.

Seems that everytime I boot up Windows normally ever since the incident, it doesn't work correctly.

Help, suggestions, solutions, experiences would be appreciated.

It looks like the card either has a hardware issue, the clocks have somehow been tweaked too high, the refresh rates are messed up or the drivers have corrupted.

First thing to try is go into safe mode and install the monitor driver for your monitor.
If that fails:

try going into safe mode, uninstalling the video card drivers then completely power down.
Boot into Windows, it should work fine to re-install the graphics driver.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the reply. I've been using this same video card but a different monitor for over a year now and it never had a problem. The monitor was a CRT. I have never overclocked anything. And, the first thing I did when getting this LCD was install the monitor's drivers. I'll do what you have suggested though.

... I placed this thread in this forum section because the only thing different from then and now is this monitor.

If all else fails you should try uninstalling the monitor drivers and just let windows treat it as a generic plug and play. I've heard of some wonky monitor drivers causing issues with other panels..

Alright, I just did a clean wipe of my graphic card drivers, and the problem stopped occurring. Thanks for the input.

WAIT. I am mistakened. After the ATI driver reinstallation, the problem was fixed but when I re-ran that game I was testing, the problem reappeared.

Game: Albatross18

I managed to temporarily fix the problem by restarting into VGA mode and then restarting again normally. I wish there was a permanent solution though.

Try turning VSync off if its on and on if its off.
I have no idea if this could work but its such a quick thing to check, its worth a go :)

This may help though...
When the game exits does the monitor tell you what display mode it has gone into?
The monitor should display something like 1024x768 32bit.
If not there may be an option to turn that on in the monitors menu.

You can then use the CCC or Tray tools to override the refresh rate for that mode to somewhere between 60 and 75Hz (72Hz on some LCD monitors).
60Hz is recommended for LCD's.
Hopefully this will give you your desktop back when you exit the game .
