Widescreen LCD Suckiness

I just picked up the Samsung 215TW... My first LCD and first widescreen monitor... So I'm a bit newbish to all this...

But its like everything I do in Windows (ie not playing a game) just gets stretched to fit the widescreen. So I have to set it to 4:3 aspect ratio to make it look normal. Any drivers/fixes to get Windows to run in widescreen?

The monitor also looks a bit blurry to me. Like the text doesn't look as crisp as it did on my CRT. Not sure if it's just because I haven't had much time to mess with my settings yet, or if I should expect that going from CRT to LCD...

Any thoughts?

Right-click on your desktop, choose Properties.

Go to the "Settings" tab and select a resolution of 1680x1050. That should help a lot!

I also suggest you use the DVI cable instead of VGA.

If you had a VGA (D-Sub) monitor and you didn't reboot your computer, this resolution may not appera in your list of resolutions. If this is the case simply reboot your computer.

Also go to control panel > display > appearance > effects > enable "cleartype"
This will make text easier to read. You may have already done this but a lot of people with their first lcd don't know about it..

But the shadow it produces is awful. I'd rather use the standard type. Maybe there is a way to turn down the shadow that I didn't know about.

You may want to either get the monitor driver from the Samsung website, or go to display properties > settings > advanced > monitor > and decheck the "hide resolutions this monitor cannot display." Windows my not recognize your monitor as a widescreen, and therefore isnt giving you the widescreen resolutions under the basic desktop settings.

reference to drivers .. went to microsofts update page.. they had a driver for the 215tw thats 2.0 instead of the 1.0 on samsungs site .. Im using them right now and they seem to work quite well.. a first for the microsofttt site
