my computer crashed a while ago after installing the microsoft service pack for winXP, it refuses to load past mup.sys

so i gave up on trying to fix that and decided to just reinstall and format (not in that order obviously)

so i put my winxp boot install cd in the drive and start the computer up, and it goes into the install says at the bottom f6 for raid f2 for ASR, those go away and it hangs

i've tried removing every other unimportant piece of hardware i have hooked up the video card, the keyboard ram proc one hard drive and one cd drive

i've tried using different hard drives hooked up i've tried different cd drives i've tried no hard drives, i even downloaded from microsoft a set of floppys that will boot to install xp if your xp cd is not a boot cd, it still hangs at the same point

i flashed the bios to the newest version,

i have an ecs k7s5apro motherboard an an athlon xp 1500+ 256mb crucial ddr
 
well you could just get a boot disk with fdisk on it and format your hdd from there. then try booting off the winxp disk. i hope you arent overclocking anthing, as that could be the source of your problems
 
If you are overclocking, that might be causing your install problem.
 
Before you go through all of that hassle, why not try to use the XP disk and try a system repair.....just go to the second repair option, not the command line repair option. That will probably put your system right...you may have to reactivate, but it is a painless operation. :)
 
the ASR disk... it's a floppy that i should've made when it was installed right?
are they all the same?
i don't think i made one

eh, i see at least 2 ideas up there that will work...
he is talking about booting off the windows installation cd, i hope you have one of those ;)
 
If you installing the big SP1 and get errors, why dont you better slipstream the SP1 and start fresh with an improved version of your Xp install disk? :D
