Ok, so my system has an annoying fan in it. And about a week ago I thought I unplugged it, however the noise didn't die down much so I figured it was more than one fan. Having the time to dig through again today, I found that I had unplugged my cpu fan

However over the past week even with it getting in the mid 90's (F) here I had no clue. The computer is on pretty much 24/7 doing distributed networking stuff. So I check the temp of the cpu before I shut it off to plug the fan back in and it was only 52c at full load. Needless to say I was pretty amazed the temp was that low with no fan and no direct airflow over the HS.

Just figured I'd share that with you guys as I found it pretty amazing it was able to cool that well with basically no airflow.

That's good to know. I just purchased a TRU 120 to replace my Zalman 9500. This is a good fail-safe because if the cpu fan were to die, the cpu isn't going to reach nuclear temperatures:p

One should hope, but I'd guess it depends on how much heat your putting into it. I have a rather mild OC with no voltage boost.

Your OC is creating a lot more heat I'm sure, but for a lower OC it can definately work without a fan and not go nuclear which makes me feel better since I leave this computer on 24/7. Though if you have good airflow in your case (Which I don't) you may still be safe.

I second this. Especially since there are ppl looking for a completly silent setup also.
And i believe the TRU 120 would be an excellent choice for them.

Go thermalright Ultra 120!

I was able to run my E6600 @ 3.6ghz wihout a fan for a day or so (waiting for an LED fan) and my temperatures were idling in the low 50's
