why so much contract hate?

All I know is that 2 years ago I was paying Sprint $180 a month (after tax) for 2 phone lines. Every 2 years I spent $400 upgrading the phones. Now I pay Straight Talk $100 (after tax) a month and I just pick up a Nexus phone when ever. I might go back to a contract plan if I was covering for 3+ lines but for 1-2 lines it is way cheaper to go off contract.

Why do people hate contracts so much when its clearly a better deal, as long as you can hold on for 2 years?

Nexus 5 is 350$

Virgin Mobile is 35$ a month for LTE (don't care about caps or other BS so don't argue carrier nonsense).

So that's roughly 1200 for 2 years.....

Your math came to.....2,000$+......

Eh?
4 lines at ATT are $160 unlimited talk and text, with 10 GB to share among all 4 devices via their Mobile Share plan.

Sure, over 2 years that's still $1,200 more than TMo, but you do get a lot more data and you can probably lower the monthly cost if you settle for less data. At $1,200 more for 4 lines over 2 years you aren't better off buying 4 off-contract phones for $650 each even if you have to pay $200 for on-contract phones at ATT (which savy shoppers rarely have to pay).
See:
That $160 plan doesn't give you subsidized phones. If you get one, say a high end it will add $30+ per phone, per month to your line.

$230 is what I got from AT&T's website with 4 subsidized devices. I did 4gb shared because the base T-Mobile plan does 1gb per line. Obviously 10gb shared is going to cost even more.

My old Verizon contract (unlimited text & data, + 1500 minute) was $215/month. Plus we paid $200 and $300 for our phones 2 years ago (IPhone 4S and Galaxy S3 respectively)

I moved for a job, and in this place, Verizon doesn't have LTE, or 3G. I had a 1X data connection. So I had to switch carriers. I was going to do AT&T, then was clued in to Ting by some coworkers.

We just bought a pair of Nexus 5s, and on Ting, I will pay ~$50/month total for the same usage. I still don't have LTE (like Verizon, it's on the other side of the river, so it's a location, rather than capability issue), but I at least get 3G.

I'm paying 25% of what I did before, and getting 20x the data speed of Verizon. If I switched to AT&T like I planned, I'd be paying more than twice what I do now, but probably get better speeds. But I'd have still had to pay for those Nexus phones outright.

As I said earlier, you could get 2 S5/M8 phones for the price of one, maybe you still can. LG G2 was free a very short time after launch. There are these deals all the time depending on carrier.

Yeah, only if you have 2 lines and if you do the 2-year contract extension on both lines.

So the Verizon ad is really misleading and borderline lying since they don't mention it doesn't include the phone price per month.

Yea I'm looking hard at AIO wireless. I have a 23% corporate discount on sprint so I have close to MVNO upper tier pricing on my service. However, if I get the bottom tier 35 with prepay and 250 galaxy express, I save about 600 bucks in 2 years and still have a better phone. I hear ATT is better in my area too.

Aio is awesome. I've been with them for a few months now after dealing with Straight Talk for the past few years (who had, quite possibly, the worst customer service ever).

When I signed up with them, the 2.5GB data & unlimited calling/SMS plan was $50.00, but if you signed up for auto-pay then they dropped the price to $45.00 a month. However, last month I recieved a text that said that they had dropped the price to $40.00 which is a smoking deal.

It's on AT&T's LTE network, which is great where I live/travel to. Never have any speed/coverage issues or anything like that. It's also great too because it supports visual voicemail on the iPhone (most MVNO's dont seem to)

I honestly don't know why people stick with carriers that are raping them on plans for 90-110 a month when they can get similar service/coverage for a fraction of the price.

In my case options are limited since GSM coverage where I live is terrible, a few blocks down its fine. So I'm limited to CDMA carriers/MVNOs. I have a unlimited data grandfathered plan from Verizon, and since I didn't take txt option (I use Google Voice) that saves me $10/month, and I have a small corp discount so it actually works out pretty decent. Thought about switching, even bought a Nexus 5 for TMobile but had to return it.

Sprint just committed to US GSM unlock. Wow, Son!
Interesting! I'm on ting (Sprint mvno). Just got the LG g2, and they international SIM-unlocked it for me with no hassles (of course, purchased full price). That's all I cared about since I don't have much interest in changing service and I'm one of the few that actually gets really good voice and 4g in my typical area. But if I can get the SIM US-unlocked too, that would be nice. I look forward to when the mobile phone industry in the US is more normalized.

Oh yeah.

I have an old plan with 4 smartphones and it costs around $250/mo with subbed phones.
with theire new fancy shmancy "More Everything" plan I would pay any where from 10-30$ more even though I am not using my data or minutes up each month now.

I love it because behind the fine print there really is no difference and you pay roughly the same. But they do these flashy ads trying to make people think they can "WIN".

I paid $300 up front for my Moto X and I pay $25/mo for "unlimited everything" service. There are no contract plans available in the US that even approach what I'm getting for my money right now. I can also change phones or carriers whenever I want without being charged money for the "privilege" of choice.

Who do u work with to get a corporate discount w/ Sprint. Been trying to get one for the longest after I quit my prior employer where my discount was with.
