Why should I go X800XT?

heh, too bad that game is full of bugs which to my knowledge, Doom 3 isnt.

Too bad D3 is over right about the time you finish it. Zero replay value or multiplayer

Speed isn't everything you know. My Opinion of course.

ahh yes, but thats what makes the XT PE such a nice card cuz its got the best of both worlds: speed and IQ. ;)

till SM3.0 takes off any way ;)

...In which case I'll just upgrade to the next top of the line card.
In the meantime, I decided the performance difference between the GeForce 6800 and X800 cards wasn't enough to get super picky about, so I just bought both.

true but I still enjoy playing Doom 3 over and over again.

it seems like I always seem to find something new or different that I mightve missed the first or second time around.

by the way, I'm not saying that Far Cry sucks cuz it certainly doesnt. the nature graphics themselves simply did (and still do) blow me away.

I just think its kinda pathetic that the game has had several patches already to which one of them has already been recalled.

It isn't just an issue with Doom 3. It is an issue with all the FUTURE games that use the Doom 3 engine, or engines derived from it. Unless there is some radical unforseen change, the x800 XT will be worse than the cheaper 6800 GT in ALL of those future games, and Doom 3.

Note that the x800 series also falls behind in DX9 games with SM 3.0 enabled, such as Far Cry with the 1.2 patch enabled. If they are currently worse at OpenGL, and may not even be better at DX9 in the future...

Its not guaranteed they will fall behind in D3 engine derivatives given the fact that nVidia likely heavily optimized for D3 in the first place and from that recent report at 3dcenter they make it sound as if its mainly software optimizations anyway. Also, where did you see ATi fall behind in Far Cry with the 1.2 patch? ATi came out quite ahead of nVidia with SM 2.0b enabled in Far Cry 1.2, not behind unless you have some odd source showing otherwise??

so if this patch was so great then why was it recalled?

Dunno you'd have to ask Crytek about that. The texture flashing problem that was seen with it was fixed in later iterations of the Catalysts so there are no problems experienced when running it. That is besides the pt. anyway because if you use the 1.1 patch for benchmarking then the 6800 cards lose even worse.
