Running some tests before the watercooling setup arrives and alot of people seem to use prime95 over Toast for stress testing. Why? With prime95 I max out at 48C and Toast at 52C. Toast has always seemed to be more stressful but is there any reason I'm missing why prime95 is supposedly better? Or maybe just not everyone knows about Toast.

i use prime95 because it is a proven piece of software. out of all the people who use it, its a general consensus that when you get a prime95 error with an overclock, its because of an unstable overclock and not a bug in prime95

Prime is great for finding stability. I do find though personally that Prime is for 120% stability. I can game and play all day at certain settings fine, but Prime will fail in seconds. I just don't need 120% stability for my purposes. Perhaps if I was doing F@H or something, the story would be different. But I just game, so it's all good if Prime fails, but my games work ;)

Prime stresses your system with tests that it can compare the answers to. If the answer is off, prime fails. For gaming , not a big deal. For folding or something like that, its very serious as the calculations can be compromised with errors. 2+2=4 right?

edit* turn off hyperthreading and you'll get 100% usage or run cpu burn-in at the same time with HT on.
