Why PC game?

FYI its probably coming to consoles ;) Past Diablos have been on consoles.

I know , Diablo was on PS1.Its all speculation at the moment for Diablo 3. We just better get a PC version thats a true PC version if they do decide to put it on consoles. Odds are it will probably come out on the consoles after the PC launch like the original Diablo.

Avoiding brats sqwarking online is worth the investment alone. So I don't resort to this to find peace.

And yes, it was worth it. Queued at a midnight launch for this POS too.

1. Better graphics.
2. Mouse and keyboard support.
3. No Xbox Live requirement for online gaming.
4. Higher skill threshold in multiplayer games. A keyboard and mouse are much easier to use than a controller, so PC players become much better than console players and are therefore more of a challenge.
5. Flexibility: I have a wireless Xbox 360 controller and PC receiver, so I can always use that to play games with if I choose, as opposed to consoles where I would be forced to use a controller no matter what.
6. PC-exclusive games appeal to me more than console-exclusive games. I'd rather play STALKER than Halo.

This.

Also the PC online community tends to be much more mature than the consoles.

From an enthusiasts viewpoint it's not only about the software, but the hardware too. There is just something that is more techyishly satisfying when playing games on a PC...

I enjoy PC gaming for a number of reasons. For one, there's a lot of game options on the PC that consoles seem to largely ignore. Quite a few good strategy and simulation games, just for starters. Plus, I still favor mouse+keyboard for most games.

Diablo 2
Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad

this thread is now diamonds

Wow a ton of responses most of which were helpful. Browsing Steam seemed to push me over the edge. Amnesia seemed incredible. Its good to hear that multiplayer PC gaming is alot more mature than console users as well. And free DLC? yes please. The only fear I have are the nightmare stories of people spending more time trying to get the game to play correctly rather than playing it. Time to start researching parts :D

top three reasons:

(1) Mouse and keyboard support: i'd own a console if FPS games were made for them that assumed people gamed with M + KB. Gamepad console gaming is the single biggest reason why the bliss of 1998-1999's twitch shooters gave way to the generic, "realistic" war-type games we have today... Since Halo's release in 2000 (or was it 2001?) the deathmatch, skill based shooter has died a quick death...

wow, #1 was more like a rant than anything else...

(2) Flexibility: mods, consoles, etc.... I remember jedi knight/outcast, I would just spawn tons of jedi and reborn and stormtroopers and watch them duke it out in a batter far bigger and better than anything in the SW movies...

(3) Cost: PC games = much cheaper, actually go down in price

Initiating search for reasons PC's are superior to consoles...

Searching...

Your inquiry returned too many results....

I dont know where to start lol.

Pc gaming is the last free gaming zone. God forbid you call someone a jerkoff on psn or live you might have the fbi come to your house.

The croud on the pc side is older and cooler imo than psn or live. Console have little kiddies running around with there annoying crackling voices, demanding i tell them my address so they can come to my house and kill me. I'm 6'2 225 solid rock the kid sounds like he's twelve and a fat kid telling me he's coming to my house and that i should get ready.

I have a console around here somewhere. I will use it if there is a great console exclusive that I really want to play. There are some great games on consoles, that is undeniable, but if you have a real gaming PC, and keep it up to date, there is no reason to play any video game on a console, unless of course it is a exclusive title.

But stuff like the Fallout games, Oblivion, any FPS, any game really, is taking a huge step back to play them on a console. The consoles are so dated and restricted by comparison, it is tough to be satisfied with them.

consoles. substituting monopolies for excellence. I mean look at all of them. how old are they all?
How much would your pc suck if it was 4 or 5 years old?

I've been there and it sucked tons. I wish I could upgrade my PC now and it's only 2 years old for the most part. Once you game at 1920*1200 at 16X AA you don't like stepping down.

Mods, mods and mods, from mini mods to full blown a new game is born mods. For example - Counter-Strike. I played that game for years, it was free for me. I had half-life. Natural Selection was another mod that I played countless hours on. I probably spent 10-20x more time playing mods then the retail game I purchased. I actually buy retail games to play the mods.

There is nothing like Third Age ( mod which uses Medieval 2 : Total War Kingdoms ) on the console.

youtube it, third age mod, medievial 2 total war.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_406872&v=CHWzW88DLxo&feature=iv

or just go to moddb.com you can see the thousands upon thousands of other games out there that are MODs.

But I did have a Ps2 that I turned on 3x. and a PS3 is in the living room that occasionally see's usage .. sometimes... for specific game titles, after they are beaten those game titles usually get sold - tho 50% of the time its for movie watching.

WC3:Frozen throne - I played probably 1000:1 more hours playing DOTA a mod (custom map) than I ever played with WC3. Never beat WC3 etc played maybe 10-15 actual wc3 games versus thousands of dota games.

Controllers can be bought to use with the PC :) but I prefer the mouse.

For FPS - Mouse keyboard is king. There is a reason why console fps's aren't linked to their PC cousins because the PC gamers would hand the console gamers their asses.

The console is good for specific signature titles or types like the same FIFA NBA NFL game repackaged over and over and over with once every 2-4 years something innovative added in, like the new FiFA11, but I can get a controller to play FiFA11 on the PC if thats my thing.

One example is googling STALKER COMPLETE 2009 nuff said! ;p

half-life 2 : golden eye source - yes a mod based on the n64 game :)

What I like best about PC gaming is the fact that gamers have a lot of control over their games and can fix things which the developers have F'ed up.

Did the developers decide to give a game an FOV of 75, while I want it to be 90? No problem, someone has found a way to change this using the console or config files or even a player made patch.

Did the developers decide that a nifty design choice would be have the entire game set in the dark, and force the player to choose between holding a flashlight or a gun? (DOOM 3) No problem, gamers put out a mod for it which lets everyone use a flashlight and a gun at the same time. 500,000 players download it in the first few days. Stupid design choice reversed.

Did the developers put out a game full of bugs and then go out of business? (Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines) No problem, gamers step in and create their own patches which fix the bugs.

And so on. There are player made patches and mods which make every imaginable change to games, rebalancing them, fixing bugs, reversing stupid design decisions, and more. Don't like head bob? Someone found a way to remove it.

The most extreme example I can think of is the Max Payne games, which were 3rd person shooters. Some enterprising player found a way to mod the game to make them into a 1st person shooter. The games were (in my opinion) vastly better and more fun to play this way.

On a console, you're stuck with whatever crap the developers stick you with.

I just enjoy playing my games at high resolutions and not having to worry about performance issues. KB/M help too. :)

4. Higher skill threshold in multiplayer games. A keyboard and mouse are much easier to use than a controller, so PC players become much better than console players and are therefore more of a challenge.

I agree that there is some very stiff competition in the PC gaming world, but on a console you're pretty much on a level playing field with everyone else. On both PC and console, skill level does play a huge part but PC gamers using expensive gaming equipment (better mice or faster computers to render the game more smoothly) might have an advantage over other PC gamers (assuming equal skill levels). This is part of the fun of course, but you don't have the consistency that you have when playing on a console. On a console, everyone is using the same hardware and (pretty much) the same controllers and living or dying is determined strictly by skill level and your network connection.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you paired a skilled PC FPS player up with a skilled console gamer with a 360 controller, the PC player would probably win due to the increased control that a mouse and keyboard offer. The equally skilled PC gamer would pose more of a challenge due to the differences in the input devices, while the console gamer might be equally skilled in terms of the game but he was forced to use a controller due to his choice of playing on a console. BUT, he's going to pose a heck of a challenge to the people he is playing with -- other console gamers using controllers. If you're just playing with other console users, the "challenge" is more or less the same since they are using the same equipment as you. Just like on PC, there are good players and bad players and the good players that pose a challenge are restricted in the same ways that you are. A few of my buddies got into COD: MW for the 360 big time...playing day after day for months on end. I wouldn't say the challenge they faced was any less, since they were facing some rather good console players who had become very good at that game despite the limitations of the console.

Also, you say the mouse and keyboard are easier to use. For you and me, yes they are. But for someone who did not grow up gaming on the PC, a controller is likely easier to use since many console kiddies are put off by having to coordinate the two devices simultaneously and complain that the keyboard has too many buttons or that using the now traditional ASWD layout for movement is 100x more awkward than dealing with two thumbsticks and some buttons. Personally, I hate using a controller and feel limited in most games when doing so. I despise not having a separate, dedicated input for every action and I can't stand having to hold button "X" while pressing button "Y" in order to make something happen because the game has more actions than the controller has buttons.

Your other points I agree with. And I'm just playing Devil's advocate here, so don't think I'm trying to defend consoles against the PC:

So I'll just say gaming on a pc has always been better than gaming on a console to me, at least since '94 or so. Despite the PC not having many exclusives these days, I'll still take the multiplatform PC version over xbox/ps3 any day.

+1 !!!

What he said.

Consoles give you fast and relatively worry free inexpensive game play. You stick the cartridge/disk/whatever in the slot and play. Easy and quick to use. EVERYTHING else is superior on the computer. Graphics, mods, online forums about the game, updating, ability to do other things while gaming, usually better controls, cheats (if you like that kind a thing you scalawags), updates and add-ons, ability to patch the game, and if your patient, dirt cheap PC games on sale.

Once you spend the initial amount on the computer, PC gaming isn't that much money if you shop wisely.

Well, it's a fact of life that PC gamers need to spend money to keep their machines up to date. However, I think that's balanced out by both the far superior image quality of PC games as well as their lower pricing. The hardware is more expensive, but the software is cheaper and tends to drop in price much more quickly.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you paired a skilled PC FPS player up with a skilled console gamer with a 360 controller, the PC player would probably win due to the increased control that a mouse and keyboard offer. I find that when I play a console FPS, I'm fighting with the controller at the same time as I'm fighting against other people. I don't have that problem with a keyboard and mouse. Yes, all console players have the same limitations, but PC gamers are able to reach higher levels of prowess since the superior control method is less restrictive.
Also, you say the mouse and keyboard are easier to use. For you and me, yes they are. I disagree with you there. Although I'm primarily a PC gamer, I do have quite a bit of time invested in playing console FPSes, and I find a mouse and keyboard to be easier and more flexible than a controller. Console gamers might find KB+M to be more difficult at first due to lack of experience, but assuming equal experience with both control schemes, KB+M is definitely easier to use.

There is no doubt that the console controllers are easier to use because they cant do shit. They only have a very limited number of buttons so obviously that is easier to comprehend. Some mice have more buttons than console controllers. Controllers are also more ergonomic.
However so far no joystick or controller system has proven to be anywhere near as effective at allowing a person to achieve their full potential in games especially RTS and FPS games. The keyboard gives you a ton more keys to work with and the mouse gives you the ability to fine tune sensitivity as well as change it on the fly and to change speed and precise movement anyway you see fit.

I have seen this, when playing console games I thin many good players are held back by the controller. IE their aim could be better and they could reach another level of skill if the controllers was not limiting their ability. However in computer games with a decent mouse and keyboard it is the other way around. The person in the vast majority of cases is the bottle neck, the speed the move and the skill they have cannot full exploit the mouse and keyboard.

Oh yes, big time. I've compared a few multi platform games on my pc to my 360 on the same screen at 1920x1080. The games on the pc look near perfect, where as the 360 games look have the upscaled ugly look to them. My tv hides the scaling a little better, but my monitor shows just how dated console games look.

but I still like playing console games, don't get me wrong. :)

This. While many games as of late have no additional higher resolution textures or special effects, at least on the PC I can run them at 1920x1200. On the XBox 360 few games are even "true 720p". Comparing a game running on the XBox 360 (or PS3) at 1152x640, 1024x576 or in some cases 960x540 with 2x AA and no AF to said 1920x1200 with 4/8x AA and 16x AF is no contest.

You can bet at least it will be far sharper on PC, if nothing else.

1. Keyboard & mouse.
2. Since I already use my computer for a lot of things, why not game on it too.
3. Flight simulations (mostly PC based, and I need to connect my joystick/throttle/pedals)
4. Exclusives (CS, BF2, etc.)
5. Resolution (I'd like to not be limited to 720p or 1080p just because that's what's mainstream)
6. Audio (Sound card, headphone jack). Also, sometimes I like to listen to music/radio while gaming)

It's just much easier to game on a PC - if you already have one. It also brings so much more flexibility and customization.

PC's are gay. Graphics are shit, The mods are crap. Id rather play a Wii. Just kidding :) I just had an argument with a friend who tried really hard to prove to me that metro 2033 looks sick on his console so I sat and watched him brag about it. it does look fairly good on his 120hz 40 inch so I showed him metro on PC he didnt say shit after.

I love it & I really hate consoles with a passion. under priced junk in my opinion. when you have to pay to play online now thats where I draw my limit

Because every time I play an FPS on a console the assy imprecise control of thumbsticks makes me want to throw the console and everything attached to it out the window at the speed of light.

pc will always be alot better then consoles, consoles have one thing on pcs and thats the sports games. keyboard + mouse better then 2 analog sticks and some buttons + scrims found on mirc, players are better, kids dont yell and scream as often because mommy and daddy will buy them a console but not a computer, some mmo's are fun. Consoles are easy imo, the controls suck having to aim with an analog and using the other analog to move, pushing the analogs on accident, but the players are easy i played some black ops on ps3 (only thing we have that is an ok game to play against eachother over here in asscrackistan) guys played it for the last 2 weeks, and have played all the other cods on consoles, and ive played one console fps before this for one week before selling the console because it was to easy online, i aboslutely destroyed them, console just isnt fun,

I've wanted to do this many times after a match... :p

The only real negative thing about PC gaming that I can think of is the ease of getting hacks for MP.

Even people buying them - which makes it near impossible to detect.

add that most of those games are capped at 30fps vs 60 to 100+ fps on the pc.
