Sorry guys. . .I got distracted while prepping the poll and the stupid forum software makes you post the poll within 10 minutes of posting the thread. Sorry for the confusion!

This pool is lame because theres a lot of reasons that are not listed... Like no iPhone in Canada for instance.

Not sure why you are downing iPhone on the Apple forum. All of those "reasons" are very subjective. I personally plan on getting one, cause it looks awesome. The fact that it is $500 means nothing to me. I have been with Cingular since it was Bellsouth back in '99, and haven't had a cingle problem with them.

lol^ not one single problem huh? wow. :p

my reason remains the same: no upgrades on any of the phone numbers in my family till mid 2008, and its $500 WITH a new contract...so meh.

ol^ not one single problem huh? wow.

I did that on purpose... as a play on words. :p And no, I have not had one reason to be in any way displeased with Cingular. They were good as Bellsouth, they have been good as Cingular, and I don't see them being any different with AT&T. They will probably be just as good when they break up AT&T again, and it turns into something else.

And the whole $500 w/ plan doesn't bother me, cause it is all relative. Some may see buying a QX6800 for triple figures as a good buy, when they could just overclock a 6600. It is all opinion. I have seen people pay a lot more money, for a lot worse things.

If the iPhone is anything like my iPod and all my friends iMacs.. then it will be well worth the money.

In all honesty, I'm not downing the iPhone at all. In fact, I think for the most part it looks pretty awesome. I simply asked what factors were keeping people from taking the plunge. For me, it's a combination of factors which keep me from buying (soon) - not the least of which is cost (two early termination fees + cost of two iPhones). As for my personal take on the other reasons. . .I don't expect a phone to hold all my music, so I don't care much about the iPod section at all. In fact, I wouldn't cry about it if they offered a model without a built-in iPod. When I was a Cingular customer (3 yrs) my experience with their customer service was pretty horrible. Everyone's experience is different, and I'm glad you're happy with them. As for EDGE, it's probably OK if you just need something simple quickly. But for more serious browsing - and other internet-based features Apple is touting - I think it will prove to be too slow to make most people happy.

To a point, I agree that the "reasons" are subjective. But that's true by nature, isn't it? Everyone has a different situation and circumstance, so some "reasons" would apply and others wouldn't. For me, I would be much more willing to justify the expense if I wasn't locked into a single provider (regardless of who that provider is) and I got EVDO-equivalent speed with the ability to tether the phone to my MacBook for use as a modem. But I also realize that what's true today will probably be different tomorrow. By the time Cingular/AT&T finally gets around to deploying true 3G data infrastructure, the price should have dropped to a more attractive level. At which time, it may be worth my giving Cingular another chance.

It's not open, and I can't really install 3rd party apps.

I was entertaining the idea of getting one for awhile, but once again jobs has killed it for me.

Two reasons I won't be using one (when it comes to Canada):

1) Data plans in Canada are stupid expensive. Unlimited doesn't exist and your bill will range from $375 to 1600 depending on your provider. Good chart with comparisons: http://www.thomaspurves.com/2007/04...ountries-when-it-comes-to-mobile-data-access/

2) Most areas don't even have the service. Pretty much just urban areas and I live in a rather rural area. One could even say the edge of nowhere; Can't even get anything but dialup here. :(

I would certainly like one if I could use it though.

Part of me says wait for the price to go down, the other part says wait a minute.. it's apple, the price will never go down!

Ok, you've got 2 threads on this, one of which is pretty active, so this one is closing down.
