Why aren't there any monitors based on the same panel as the 20 apple lcd. I was looking into widescreen lcd's and it seems there is no middle between 17 and 23 other than apples.

Sorry, I thought there were. Some of them says wide. So what makes a screen wide? What's wrong with a 23" Widescreen, like the L2335 for 1550?

I asked this question on this very board about a week ago.... and no one seemed to know. If there were some nice/cheaper alternatives to the Apple using the same panel, I would jump on it. If sony came out with a matching 20" to its sweet 23" incher, I would buy one in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I'm having a difficult time justifying the large price of the 23" inchers. I'd love to have one, but the price is hard to swallow.

The 20" is around 1299 isnt it. The HP L2335 is around 1550 and uses the same panel I believe...

because 20" LCDs run at weird ass resolutions and nobody wants a screen that has a res like that

Who the hell would want a 20" widescreen LCD? Thats why. 20" is big for a screen, but its big for a regular 4:3 monitor. When you take 20" and make it widescreen remember you're still measuring corner to corner. So yeah, you'd have a wide monitor, but it would look very whimpy considering it would be like a squished 2001FP. I have a 2001FP right now and I LOVE it, but I think spending close to $1000 for a widescreen monitor should constitute something at least as tall as a 20" 4:3.

Dell 2005FPW. Lists for $799

It's an inch wider than the 2001FP, but there is something like 6% less screen realestate.

So if wider is better for you, there you go.

Speakers in the pict are optional, thank goodness.

I guess widescreen is really a preference but I really like movies and games in widescreen

I like my desktop in widescreen also. Not sure about a 20" widescreen, because I prob would not be able to see 2 windows open at optimal viewing levels....I know with the 23", I can have 2 windows open perfectly at 1920x1200
