What is the deal with the M1015 card? It appears to be the only card touted on these forums for ZFS hardware HBA.
Why cant we use other cards in jbod or just plain vanilla volume mode? Is there a catch? Something special?
What about using a less expensive PCI-e HBA that has no real hardware behind it other than to present drives?
Do you get some kind of super special sauce performance with an LSI based IBM M1015 card? Could I use an Adaptec 5805 or 6805, or LSI Megaraid etc...?
I really do not know the answers so I am asking. I assumed that ZFS is exclusively CPU based software only high performance heavy ram use disk management and a raid card is just well.... a bunch of sata/sas ports and nothing more in the case as with ZFS.
