Why Lite-On CD Drives?

Why do so many of you prefer Lite-on drives? I have never owned one. Are they quiet?

thanks!

They're cheap and good performers. They manufacture a lot of the drives that get rebadged by other companies, so if you were buying something like a Buslink or Pacific Digital, chances are that they're just Lite-Ons.

They're not particularly loud, I'd say they were as loud as any other CD drives I own. However, when my 52x Lite-On gets going, it's louder than any of the fans in my system.

LiteOn drives rank right up there in quality with Plextor drives. The Plextor drives are somewhat better though and have more features but alot more expensive.

LiteOn and Plextor are pretty much the top 2 for CD burners.

In the grand scheme of optical drives, they're not that quiet. They are pretty good quality for the price, but so is my MSI CD-RW drive, which has done over 1000 burns already. Performance is usually competitive, sometimes best in class. Media reading and writing capabilities are usually better than most drives. For a general purpose drive, Lite Ons are a great solution.

thanks for the feedback! Looks like I'll be getting a 52X-24X-52X Lite-on CDRW for around 35.00 bucks at newegg.com. thats a steal!

There 2 sheep burners... In other words they can burn through copy-protection so you can "back-up" your games. Though I have a limited knowledge of this stuff, I believe Lite-On is the only burner that can do that.

Oh yeah there also one of the cheapest brands out there ;).

Cheap, good performance, tools like KProbe to check out your burn quality, regular firmware updates.. need I go on? ;)
Oh and there are other 2-sheep burners too, like the Plextor Premium and the LG 8525B.

That is definately a good deal. However, if you wait and look around, many times stores like best buy, compusa, circuit city, staples, etc., will have a rebate special on Pacific Digital DVD WRITER drives (many of which are rebadged LITEON drives). After rebate, they come to around $60-$70. So if you are ok with spending just a bit more money, you can get a DVD burner (which is also a CD burner). Your choice, just thought I would mention it.

This is the reason that Lite-On is preferred. Between Lite-On and Plextor are the best CD to CD copying options available. They're just the poor man's Plextor ;)

True Plextor does this also. I have a Plextor Premium and there is not a game yet that I can not back up with my Plextor and BlindWrite.
