Why is transmission so slow?

Hey guys it's me again, haha. I am trying to get a couple movies for me and my girlfriend later today but the one's I am currently downloading are going so slow. I remembered in Windows how uTorrent was lightning fast, not sure why. Is there a way to increase the DL speed in Transmission? Thanks for your help,
