Why is this happening?

System Specs:
Pentium 4 2.4c
Windows XP Pro SP2
Ati x800 pro
512MB Memory
audigy 2 ZS
NEC-2500a DVDRW (not quite sure of firmware - sorry, at work)

Problem is, my burner keeps uninstalling itself. It seems that it just does it randomly, cuase sometimes its there, and sometimes its not. It was working for for quite some time now. I tried to add hardware the usual way, but it dosen't even detect it...

Is there something I'm overlooking?

Sounds like a power issue, as in not enough to power all your devices.

That x800 is a power hungry beast.

Try remanaging all your power connections and make sure to give the X800 it's own cable with nothing else on it.

It could also be SP2... Personally, I am holding off for a few months till most of the bugs are reported so I know what I am getting into.

Yea, didn't even think about it being a power issue....and it did start happening after SP2....hrmm...I'll re-arrange my powerlines and see if that helps tonight. BTW, I'm using a Thermaltake 450W PS.

shouldn't be an issue but you never know until you test it.

Good luck

uninstall sp2 and i garuntee it will fix it. sp2 doesnt work on any of my computers, and i even had to relax my ram timings for it to work with games. and after the uninstall i still have to have them relaxed

The power was on the same line as the x800....fixed.

Uninstalled SP2.

Still giving me issues...it seems as if sometimes the bios will recognize the drive...the sometimes it won't. Maybe it's a bios setting? I'll checking slave/master settings as well.

Could be a bad IDE cable. Try hooking up another drive to the same spot as this burner and see whether it's detected.
